2023 Marks 40 Years of Dream in High Park


This summer, Canadian Stage celebrates 40 magical years of Dream in High Park by bringing back one of Shakespeare's most beloved plays, A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM.  The first play ever presented in the High Park amphitheatre in 1983, A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM has long been associated with the time-held tradition of Shakespeare under the stars.

Infinitheatre Announces New Artistic Director, Zach Fraser


Zach Fraser will take the helm of Infinithéâtre as the second artistic director in the company's 22-year history. Once a week, a different script of a work-in-progress from six Québec playwrights will be released. If the synopsis of the play intrigues you or you enjoy reading early work and being part of the process, they are looking for your input to help develop and write the next draft. The Infinite Playwrights' Chat Room runs Thursdays, May 14-June 25.

FIGHT ON! Comes to Infinithéâtre


Following two years of applauded, in-depth workshop productions, Infinithéàtre continues its mandate of reflecting life in the 21st century with the combined and refined full-scale production of parts 1&2 of Fight On! (Nôtinikiy). With vital, overdue recognition of Indigenous Peoples manifested by Wet'suwet'en supporters joining the protest of Coastal GasLink's pipeline project running through traditional territories, Québec's signing of the Grand Alliance respecting Cree values and wildlife habitat protection in a clear break from colonial policies, and Canada Post honouring Louis Riel and the Red River Resistance with a 150th anniversary commemorative stamp, playwright and Infinithéâtre Artistic Director Guy Sprung's timely examination of Canada's ignoble past is a dynamic bonanza. Blending comedy and Dickensian irony with tragedy, Fight On! is performed mainly in English, with significant characters speaking French, Cree and Kanienʼkéha (Mohawk), from March 16-29 at the beautiful downtown Centre St Jax. There will be moderated talkbacks after a number of performances.

Accepting Submissions For Playwrights' Unit, Infinithéâtre


In the fall of 2015, Infinitheatre formed a play-driven dramaturgical group, the Quebec English-Language Playwrights' Unit aka, The Unit. Vital Intercultural Theatre Grants $490, 400 To 31 Local Companies


The Cole Foundation is pleased to announce the latest grant winners for the Intercultural Conversations-Conversations Interculturelles (IC-CI) programme, initiated to encourage greater understanding of Montreal's cultural mosaic by having audiences enjoy professional plays that present stories and issues of diversity on stage. For the past ten years the Foundation has focused on intercultural and racialized theatrical conversations for their community initiatives. This has created an award-winning catalogue incorporating themes of inclusion and cultural dialogue. Adding to those, the programme has now expanded to include stories with and about other marginalized communities such as LGBTQ and people with a disability. This year $490,400 was granted, the highest amount of award money since the IC-CI programme's launch.

Francis Jeffery Dickens arrives in Canada in 1874 with all the prejudices and presumptions of a white colonist/settler. After serving 11 years as a member of the North West Mounted Police, Frank is horrified by the mendacity and theft that robbed the Indigenous Peoples of their lands. He learns to respect the traditions and wisdom of First Nations culture and begins to understand the urgent need to live in harmony with Mother Nature.

The Pipeline is three plays in three days-including The Kevin, first place winner from Infinitheatre's annual Write-On-Q! script writing competition, boasting the largest English literary prize in Quebec. The playwrights will be in attendance.
