The Old Globe today announced the full cast for Guys and Dolls, a musical fable of Broadway.

Think the zaniness of Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest and Brandon Thomas' Charlie's Aunt and then those crazy American stage musical parodies like Little Mary Sunshine and The Boy Friend, and you've nailed the nonstop comical antics of  I'm Just Wild About Harry adapted by Gary Lamb and William A. The Douglas Morrisson Theatre 2016-2017 37th Season continues with the World Premiere of a wonderfully silly farce: CHARLEY'S AUNT '66, freely adapted by Scott Munson from Brandon Thomas' classicCharley's Aunt. CHARLEY'S AUNT '66 will have 15 performances, including one preview, February 9 through March 5, 2017, at the Douglas Morrisson Theatre, 22311 N. The Old Globe today announced the first production of its 2017 Summer Season: Guys and Dolls, a musical fable of Broadway. Based on the stories and characters by Damon Runyon, with music and lyrics by Frank Loesser and book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows, Guys and Dolls will be directed and choreographed by Josh Rhodes, returning to the Globe after the great successes of Ken Ludwig's Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery, which he directed, and Bright Star, which he choreographed.

While watching THE GOSPEL AT COLONUS, the African-American version of Sophocles' OEDIPUS AT COLONUS as created by Lee Breuer (with music by Bob Telson), I was reminded of the reimagining of the Old Testament by Marc Connelly in the 1930 Pulitzer Prize-winning THE GREEN PASTURES. Like GOSPEL, THE GREEN PASTURES serves up time-honored material by transposing it to a religious setting;. PASTURES relates the Old Testament as envisioned by a young Afro-American boy; thus, Heaven is one big fish fry. When I first saw the 1936 film version (which Connelly, a white man, scripted for Warners' director William Keighley), I found it a special experience -- a wonderful all-black cast was an anomaly for a young viewer in the late 1950's and early i60's; now, with the passage of time (and legislation), I can understand why modern audiences would find it politically incorrect (though that cast is still peopled with some amazing talent). Interestingly, Mr. Breuer eschews following Connelly's suit, and though he utilizes a Black minister and church service to tell his tale, he focuses instead on an ancient Greek tragedy rather than the Old -- or New -- Testament.

Scorned and aged, Oedipus arrives at Colonus where he will die as fate foretold. But before his demise, he must tell his side of events. His journey toward truth, self-understanding, and forgiveness comes with soaring songs and an ending to lift the soul.

Kicking off its nine-episode second season SUNDAY, JULY 14 (10:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT), the series is executive produced by Sorkin, Scott Rudin (the Oscar(R) winner 'No Country for Old Men ') and Alan Poul (HBO's multiple Emmy(R) winner 'Six Feet Under').

Full casting is now complete for the Menier Chocolate Factory production of Brandon Thomas' comedy classic Charley's Aunt, directed by Ian Talbot and starring Mathew Horne, Jane Asher, Norman Pace and Steven Pacey. Although previously confirmed in the cast, Sam Kelly has had to withdraw from the production and is replaced by Charles Kay.

The Menier Chocolate Factory will present Brandon Thomas' comedy classic Charley's Aunt, from 20th September - 10th November, directed by Ian Talbot and starring Mathew Horne.

The National Theatre Conservatory presents two fully-produced plays where eight upcoming graduates will take the stage as part of the annual NTC Rep. FAHRENHEIT 451 will run in repertory at The Conservatory Theatre April 4 - April 21 and CHARLEY'S AUNT will run April 5 - April 21.
