FACING EAST, based on a play by CAROL LYNN PEARSON follows an upstanding Mormon couple faced with the suicide of their gay son. When they unexpectedly meet their son's partner they must face a reality long ignored, and reconcile feelings with beliefs. After workshops in Chicago and Dallas the show had a developmental charity concert at the Lyric Theatre in London, England starring several West End artists, directed by Ryan Mooney. This world premiere is the first time the show will receive a full production, with a Canadian cast and production team, and is the 40th production for FIGHTING CHANCE PRODUCTIONS.

The producers of FACING EAST, a new musical based on the moving play by Carol Lynn Pearson, are thrilled to announce that the show will play the Uptown Theatre in Grand Prairie, TX for a one night only concert on August 27, 2013. Executive Producer Nathan Gardner says "In the Dallas-Fort Worth region I see a wonderful arts community to work within, and in tandem with, to continue to grow our show. I see a city busting at the seams with things to offer. And I also see, on the other end of the spectrum, an audience that could benefit from seeing the story our show portrays."

The pre-production feature film Facing East released a Kickstarter Campaign today (Wednesday November 14, 2012). Facing East is directed by Tony nominated Broadway actor Will Swenson (Hair, Priscilla Queen of the Desert) and is written by noted queer cinema veteran Guinevere Turner (Go Fish, American Psycho, The Notorious Bettie Page) from an off-Broadway play by author Carol Lynn Pearson (author of the books Goodbye I Love You and No More Goodbyes), and produced by Duane Andersen, James Duke Mason and Emily Pearson. The campaign offers unique rewards targeted at fans of Mr. Swenson and his wife, five time Tony winner, Audra McDonald, including autographed memorabilia, the opportunity to have lunch with the couple, or to have Ms. McDonald sing to you over the phone on your birthday, or to have Mr. Swenson serenade you publicly.
As Houstonians gear up for Theater LaB's special event and Regional Premiere of MISSIONARY POSITION, the second part of Steven Fales' Mormon Boy Trilogy, Steven Fales is busy in Salt Lake City. He tells me he is thrilled to be returning to Houston, especially since CONFESSIONS OF A MORMON BOY sold out before he arrived in town when he premiered the show in the region. He noted that Houston audiences loved it, and really hopes that Houston audiences will eat up MISSIONARY POSTION as well. He feels that the time in right with Romney running for president because audiences will get to see "Mormon Temple ceremonies from an insider and not someone making fun of the church from the outside."
