Catch the new comedy BRING THEM BACK at Theater for the New City, NYC from May 9-19.

Vivid Stage, in residence at Oakes Center at 120 Morris Avenue in Summit, is offering summer improv classes for adults and teens aged 18 and up. The next session, which includes both beginner and intermediate/advanced classes, begins on June 13.

Silvino da Silva, who has served as acting executive director since late 2020, has been chosen as the next executive director of The Ruth Page Center for the Arts by its Board of Directors, effective immediately.

Nancy Manocherian's the cell theatre will host RANDOM ACTS, a solo play written and performed by Obie Award winner Renata Hinrichs. Directed by Jessi D. Hill, performances begin May 23 at the cell. Performances will be presented open air for a strictly limited audience.

The Marsh brings people from all walks of life to share their deeply personal journeys in the MarshStream Solo Arts Heal series. This Wednesday series, which features performance excerpts, talkbacks, and Q&A with Dr. Annie Brewster and Caroline Wright (Jan. 20), Hope Singsen (Jan. 27), and Samuel A. Simon (Feb. 3), will be hosted by Gail Schickele.

A handful of intrepid solo performers are presenting live, outdoor pop up performances of their acclaimed solo shows this Fall. These intimate storytelling events are presented using the LiveTours app and performed for an audience of 14 or less.

Venetia Stifler, executive and artistic director of the Ruth Page Center for the Arts, on behalf of the 2019 Ruth Page Award Committee, awarded the 2019 Ruth Page Awards to Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and its Artistic Director Robert Battle and Chicago Dance History Project and its Artistic and Executive Director Jenai Cutcher. The special event took place Friday, March 8 before the sold-out performance of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater celebrating its 60th anniversary as a company and the 50th anniversary of performing at the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University, 50 E. Actor/Playwright  Samuel A. Simon takes us on a journey through battles of cancer through his uplifting piece THE ACTUAL DANCE. The story comes from  Samuel's point of view as he, and his wonderful wife Susan, travelled through her battle with Breast Cancer. Showing the audience, that what really matters, come hell or high water, is that we continue to love.

See Chicago Dance (SCD), the dance industry's nonprofit marketing and advocacy organization, hosted its fourth Annual Gala September 25 at City Winery, 1200 W. Randolph Street. With nearly 250 people in attendance, the event celebrated Chicago's thriving dance community and honored two individuals who have been important to its success: Shirley Mordine, founder and artistic director of Mordine & Co. Dance Theater, and Angelique Power, president of the Field Foundation of Illinois.
