The hit musical CAGNEY, direct from the Off-Broadway boards, will tap their tapping feets at the El Portal Theatre beginning October 5, 2017. This story of Hollywood legend James Cagney receives its complementary accentuations and punctuations from the double pullbacks, the shuffle ball changes and switching wings of award-winning choreographer Joshua Bergasse. Josh took a break from his time-stepping to answer our digging (another tap term) questions.

Playwrights Foundation, the West Coast's premiere launchpad for exceptional emerging playwrights has named the artistic teams and daily schedule for the 40th Anniversary Bay Area Playwrights Festival (BAPF).  The 40th Anniversary Bay Area Playwrights Festival runs July 13 - 23, 2017 at Custom Made Theatre, 533 Sutter Street in the heart of San Francisco's Theater District.  In addition to twelve staged readings, the Festival will offer a Theater Professionals weekend 7/21-23, special events, and an anniversary celebration 7/13.  Tickets at bayareaplaywrightsfestival.org.

Legendary stage and screen star Joel Grey will be interviewed at 12 noon on Sunday, May 28 at the Paley Center for Media in New York City (25 West 52nd Street, NYC), preceding a screening of the 1970 NBC Telecast of George M! from 12:15 to 1:45 PM. The interview and screening are free and open to the public.

In the directorial hands of Ron May, Stray Cat Theatre's current production of Nambi E Kelley's adaptation of Richard Wright's NATIVE SON offers an unnerving and intense portrayal of Bigger Thomas's downward spiral and the price inflicted on the soul by racism.

Broadway's Rebecca Baxter, Wade McCollum, Robert Sella, Jeanne Lehman and EJ Zimmerman will be featured in an industry presentation of DIARY OF A DOMESTIC GODDESS by Kevin Duda and Christine Toy Johnson in New York City on Friday, September 16, 2016. Alan Muraoka directs.

Harlem9 presents the Obie Award-winning '48HOURS IN... HARLEM' - a twist on the traditional 24-hour play festival.

The New American Theatre Company NY (The NATCNY) will present an immersive staged reading of Nilan Johnson's Endangered Species on Monday, May 9 and Tuesday, May 10. This staging of Johnson's provacative new play will take the actors from behind the music stand and the audience from their seats. Both shows are followed by a talkback, to which the audience is invited to bring a dessert to share.
