Review: A Gripping, Thought-Provoking & Highly Entertaining INHERIT THE WIND at the Asolo Repertory Theatre

Led by two incredible performances and a visionary director, it's a production where everything goes right.

Interview: John Douglas Thompson On Providing a More Thorough Perspective of William Jennings Bryan in INHERIT THE WIND

A re-imagined production of Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee’s Inherit the Wind is currently playing on the Pasadena Playhouse stage, just extended through December 3, 2023. Michael Michetti directs the cast, led by Alfred Molina & John Douglas Thompson as the battling lawyers in a trial inspired by the Scopes Monkey trials in 1925. Rounding out the talented company: Chris Perfetti, Abubakr Al, David Aaron Baker, Rachel Hilson, Jared, Brian Calì, Marlene Forte, Matt Gomez Hidaka, Thomas Hobson, Michael Kostroff, John W. Lawson, Philip J. Lewis, Gabriella Pizzigoni, Rene Rivera and Pam Trotter. After the whirlwind of opening night and unexpected COVID cancellations, John Douglas graciously found some time to chat with me on the phone.

Review: INHERIT THE WIND at Pasadena Playhouse

Director Michael Michetti has put thought and heart into his production and peopled it with a strong cast whose characters opt for playing the strength of their convictions over histrionics. A hurricane force this WIND is not, but there’s plenty to enjoy.

Review: MARTYR at Aki Studio

Marius von Mayenburg’s MARTYR tells the story of a radicalized Christian teenager and his crusade of extremism that damages everyone around him. ARC’s production's sharp, slick direction and assured cast expose some flaws in the idea-heavy script. However, it ultimately succeeds in showing theatre’s great power to ask big, unsettling questions.

BWW Review: THE LIFESPAN OF A FACT at Repertory Theatre Of St. Louis

The St. Louis Rep has opened a smart, fast-paced, rather serious comedy about the meaning of Truth. It's called 'The Lifespan of a Fact'.

BWW Review: INHERIT THE WIND at White Theatre

“Inherit the Wind” is a fictional construction inspired by the 1925 Scopes Monkey Trial and as a screed against the “Red Scare” activities of Wisconsin Senator (R) Joseph McCarthy during the early 1950s.

BWW Review: Theatre Artists Studio Presents INHERIT THE WIND

To see INHERIT THE WIND, in its current iteration at Theatre Artists Studio, is to revisit the endless battle between open-minded reason and the intolerance of blind faith. It is, as well, a golden opportunity to witness two bears of the stage ~ Michael Fleck and Tom Koelbel ~ have at each other in their portrayals of the goliaths that put the trial of the century on the map. Runs through December 9th.

Lakewood Theatre Company continues its 66th season of live theatre with Inherit the Wind, an enduring courtroom drama by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee (Auntie Mame, The First Monday in October). Based on the real-life 1925 Tennessee case known as the Scopes "monkey" trial, two famed attorneys, based on William Jennings Bryan and Clarence Darrow, go head to head in a small town courtroom. BWW Review: Kevin Spacey Aces CLARENCE DARROW at Arthur Ashe Stadium

Ask any New York Mets fan and they'll tell you that one of the unique quirks about watching a game at the teams' Flushing home - be it the now-demolished Shea Stadium or the current Citi Field - is the frequent rumbling of planes coming in and out of LaGuardia airport.
