The three major roles are sung by appealing voices with exceptional power; the company’s chorus and the city’s children’s choir combined for thrilling moments, especially in the riveting Act I finale; San Diego Symphony musicians excelled under Italian conductor Valerio Galli, caressing the opera’s most romantic melodies and offering glowing resonance in its heroic themes. Opera San José’s 2022-23 season will conclude with a vivid production of Puccini’s thriller Tosca.

Tosca comes to Poland this month! Performances run 10-19 March 2023. Tosca is an opera in three acts with a libretto by Luigi Illica, Giuseppe Giacosa based on the play by Victorien Sardou.

The great opera TOSCA will be presented by Guild Opera Company on Friday January 27th and Saturday January 28th at 7:30 PM at River of the Valley in Canoga Park.

Musicologist Joseph Kerman is probably most widely remembered for calling Puccini’s TOSCA “a shabby little shocker.” I wonder whether he’d have something similar to say about Giordano’s FEDORA, which brought the Met audience to its feet on New Year’s Eve?

Opera Naples, one of Naples' leading performing arts organizations, has announced tickets are on sale for the II Festival Under the Stars. Conducted by Artistic Director Ramón Tebar and featuring the Naples Festival Orchestra, the II Festival Under the Stars will take place March 11-20 with performances at Cambier Park and the Wang Opera Center.

Not unlike Picasso or Klimt, Puccini painted a series of fascinating and multifaceted female portraits. His Manon, Mimi, Tosca, Cio-Cio-San, Magda, and the seemingly frigid Turandot who secretly pines for love, continue to spellbind opera audiences across the world. As time goes by, the characters do not lose any of their distinct flavour, appeal, and relevance, although their stories are set is long-gone realities.

Oper Frankfurt has announced cast changes for its upcoming production of Umberto Giordano’s Fedora. Soprano Nadja Stefanoff will take over the title role on April 3, 8, 10, 16, 18, 21, 23, and 28, 2022, replacing Olesya Golovneva. Asmik Grigorian will perform the title role on May 6 & 14, 2022.

What is there to say about Puccini’s TOSCA that hasn’t been said in the last hundred-plus years since its premiere in Rome (to echo the locations in the opera)? It is a marvel of brevity, with librettists Illica and Giacosa shaving locations, characters and action from the original play, written by the French dramatist Victorien Sardou for the legendary actress Sarah Bernhardt, without sacrificing its impact. It has a gorgeous score, but for a grand opera, it is also quite intimate, with the action mainly revolving around three characters who carry their emotions on their sleeves and interact like their lives depend on it.

War, chaos and corruption set the tone for the Giacomo Puccini's iconic opera as Opera Columbus kicks off its 40th season with Tosca, the very first opera it presented upon the company's premiere in 1981. 

Tosca is now playing at the Bolshoi in Russia. Performances will run through 17 October. Tosca features a libretto by Giuseppe Giacosa and Luigi Illica, and is based on Victorien Sardou’s play of the same name.

The 2021-22 season will be conducted by Artistic Director and renowned conductor Ramón Tebar and include productions at the newly renovated Wang Opera Center, the II Festival Under the Stars, and an extraordinary concert with Anna Netrebko and Yusif Eyvazov at Arthrex One.

San Francisco Opera announced today repertory, casting and reopening plans for its 99th season. Commencing with a performance of Giacomo Puccini’s Tosca on Saturday, August 21, the 2021–22 Season marks the inauguration of Eun Sun Kim’s tenure as Caroline H. Hume Music Director and a reemergence of opera at the War Memorial Opera House.
