The Director of the TDF Costume Collection since 2008, Stephen Cabral has been a member of the Collection’s staff for 21 years. Hired in the Fall of 1993 by then Costume Collection Director, Ken Yount, Stephen began work part-time restocking costumes.
When his administrative background was discovered by Mr. Yount in January 1994, Stephen became the Administrative Assistant to the Collection. Under subsequent Director, Domingo Rodriguez, he was made the Administrator, a title he held until being named Director.
Prior to moving to NYC, Stephen worked in the Marketing Department at the Rhode Island Philharmonic and before that, he was the Audience Development Assistant for over four years at the Trinity Repertory Company in Providence, RI.
A native of Providence, Stephen has over 20 years experience as an assistant costume designer, with a special emphasize in millinery and crafts, for commercial, educational, summer stock and community theatre productions in the New England area. In his free time, Stephen has also been an actor with countless stock and off-off-off-Broadway credits.
TDF, the not-for-profit service organization for the performing arts, has just announced that celebrated costume designer ANN HOULD-WARD and legendary scenic designer RICHARD HUDSON are among the 2024 TDF/Irene Sharaff Award recipients.
TDF has announced that celebrated costume designer Fred Voelpel and legendary scenic designer Eugene Lee are among the 2022 TDF/Irene Sharaff Award recipients. Although Mr. Voelpel passed away in June, he will be honored posthumously with the TDF/Irene Sharaff Lifetime Achievement Award for costume design.

The 25th Anniversary TDF/Irene Sharaff Awards were held last Friday, April 26 at The Edison Ballroom. The honorees were: Susan Hilferty who was presented the TDF/Irene Sharaff Lifetime Achievement Award by her friends Chita Rivera and Michael Mayer; scenic designer John Lee Beatty who was presented the Robert L. B. Tobin Award by former Sharaff awardee, Jane Greenwood; Miodrag Guberinic who was presented the Kitty Leach Young Master Award by former Sharaff awardee Paul Tazewell, and Rodney Gordon who was presented the TDF/Irene Sharaff Artisan Award by Tony winner (and former employee) Cady Huffman. This year's film by Suzy Benzinger was a special tribute to Irene Sharaff in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the awards.
