Here is a list of some of my favorite theatre experiences in San Diego in 2022! This is by no means a complete list of everything that was excellent in this past year, but now we get to turn towards 2023 and all of the fantastic theatre that is sure to come our way.

The New Group is now presenting their 2022-23 Season opener: Evanston Salt Costs Climbing, by Will Arbery and directed by Danya Taymor. It would be easy to wonder about the person who can write a show as funny, heartfelt, insightful, and contemplative as WHAT WE TALK ABOUT WHEN WE TALK ABOUT ANNE FRANK.  Yet when speaking with playwright Nathan Englander it becomes clear that the humor, the nimble turn of phrase and topic, and then somehow turning back to come together at the end is exactly how his mind works. Englander talks about his process of turning his short story of the same name into the quick-witted comedy now playing at The Old Globe through October 23rd.

The Old Globe announced the cast and creative team for the world premiere of What We Talk About When We Talk About Anne Frank by Pulitzer Prize finalist Nathan Englander.  Performances begin September 11, 2022 and play through October 23, 2022, with the opening on Sunday, September 18.

PREMIERES NYC has announced the expansion of its bi-annual commissioning series INNER VOICES with the New York premiere production of Los Otros, a musical in one act with book & lyrics by Tony Award nominee Ellen Fitzhugh (Grind, Paradise Found) and music by five-time Tony Award nominee Michael John LaChiusa (The Wild Party, Giant).

Celebrate Women's History Month with the comedically poignant new short film, Kersti Bryan's Egg Party. The film centers on a group of 30-something women confronting 'growing up' and their own fertility. Egg Party will World Premiere this month at Cinequest Film Festival.

Garry Marshall Theatre and Dark Blue Mondaze presents​​​​​​​ HOLIDAZE HARMONY, a virtual concert featuring recording artists and Broadway stars Terron Brooks and Kamilah Marshall. HOLIDAZE HARMONY's director/producer Joseph Leo Bwarie shares some backstory in creating HOLIDAZE HARMONY, playing Frankie Valli in JERSEY BOYS, and his journey with Garry Marshall - the man and the theatre.

Bette Midler has conjured an all-star cast that’s sure to get into mischief as they raise funds for New York Restoration Project (NYRP) at her virtual “Hulaween” benefit: In Search of The Sanderson Sisters, A Hocus Pocus Hulaween Takeover.

In an interview with Fox 5's 'Good Day New York,' Bette Midler appeared to confirm that she and her fellow Sanderson Sisters (played by Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy) will reunite for the upcoming 'Hocus Pocus' sequel.
