Robert Kaplowitz is a Tony Award-winning sound designer with an impressive career in theater, film, and television. Born in New York City, Kaplowitz attended NYU's Tisch School of the Arts where he received a BFA in Film and Television Production.
Kaplowitz began his career in sound design working on off-Broadway productions before making his Broadway debut in 1998 with the play "The Beauty Queen of Leenane." Since then, he has worked on numerous Broadway productions, including the Tony Award-winning shows "Fela!," "The Deaf West revival of Spring Awakening," and "The Band's Visit."
In addition to his work on Broadway, Kaplowitz has also designed sound for a variety of off-Broadway productions, including "The Blue Room" and "The Laramie Project." His work has been recognized with several awards and nominations, including Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards.
Kaplowitz's work extends beyond the stage and into film and television. He has worked on sound design for a number of films, including "The Namesake," "The Visitor," and "The Ballad of Jack and Rose." He has also contributed to the sound design of several television shows, including "The Sopranos" and "Sex and the City."
In addition to his sound design work, Kaplowitz is also a composer. He has written music for theater productions, including "The Laramie Project," and has contributed to film scores, including "The Namesake."
Kaplowitz's most recent work includes sound design for the Broadway productions of "The Band's Visit" and "Hadestown," both of which received critical acclaim and multiple Tony Awards. He also worked on the sound design for the film "The Farewell," which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2019 and received widespread critical acclaim.
