According to the New York Post, Simon McBurney's latest project, The Kid Stays in the Picture, which just concluded its run at London's Royal Court Theatre, is heading to Broadway. Michael Riedel writes that the play will open at a Shubert theatre this September.

Sundance Institute announced today the films and installations to be featured in the 2014 edition of New Frontier at the Sundance Film Festival, including the U.S. premiere of The Source (evolving) by renowned artist Doug Aitken and a 3D projection-mapping project by Klip Collective. Given what has come to pass in his oft-vaunted career, the perils of his private life have always informed his art in one way or another - from his war-torn orphan upbringing in Europe in a concentration camp to his wife and son's brutal slaying by the Manson Family to the infamous rape case that made him a fugitive to the US; up to the new millennium and the recent HBO documentary examining the court case and, of course, the upcoming feature film, CARNAGE, itself. From the suffocating claustrophobia and bizarre social and sexual proclivity examinations in KNIFE IN THE WATER, REPULSION and CUL-DE-SAC, to his more mainstream US films like the horror classic ROSEMARY'S BABY and, in my critics' opinion one of the finest films ever made, CHINATOWN. Taking into account his seamless stage-to-screen transfer of DEATH AND THE MAIDEN in 1994, Polanski's CARNAGE could very well stand alongside that tremendous achievement as a solid film all its own - even divorced from its theatrical roots - especially judging from the looks of today's just-released trailer for the feature film version, coming out in December as one of the year's most highly-anticipated Oscar-bait entries being released at the end of the year (as always). For those not familiar with the hit source play, GOD OF CARNAGE concerns itself with one evening and the meeting of two couples in Manhattan to discuss their sons' situation in school and over the course of the colorful extended conversation the tables are turned and the parents reveal themselves to be children at heart - in more ways than one.

The Producers Guild of America (PGA) announced today that producer Scott Rudin will receive the 2011 David O. Selznick Achievement Award in Motion Pictures. The award will be presented to Rudin at the 22nd Annual Producers Guild Awards ceremony on Saturday, January 22nd at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles.

The Houston Symphony has announced additional vocalists for its upcoming Broadway Rocks! series, accompanied by the Gay Men's Chorus of Houston, September 3, 4, and 5. Previously announced Julia Murney (Wicked, Lennon) will be joined by Capathia Jenkins (Caroline, or Change), Hugh Panaro (Phantom of the Opera), and Robert Evan (Phantom of the Opera).

The New York Times reports today that Jon Robin Baitz's THE OTHER DESERT CITIES, to be directed by Joe Mantello, will be produced at the Mitzi Newhouse Theatre at Lincoln Center off-Broadway in the 2010-2011 season. The production had been aiming for a Broadway run next year, however, the Baitz has now decided that show show is better suited for a smaller production at the moment, and will open at the Newhouse on January 13, 2011. Previews will begin on December 16, 2010.

The New York Times profiles Hollywood producer Robert Evans today, who is the subject of an upcoming Broadway play penned by television writer Jon Robin Baitz, as BroadwayWorld previously reported. The story will surround Evans real life events. In the Times article, Evans discusses how he suffered a stroke and was originally paralyzed on his right side and unable to speak. After much work, Evans has been able to return to his role of successful Hollywood producer.

As previously reported, Jon Robin Baitz is currently working on a show about producer Robert Evans. The scribe will first make his Broadway debut as a playwright, however, with LOVE AND MERCY which will take to the Broadway stage next season.

Writer Jon Robin Baitz is currently in the works of authoring a new play about Hollywood film producer Robert Evans. Evans worked on such films as Rosemary's Baby, Love Story, The Godfather and Chinatown and was also well known for his much-publicized seven marriages. The play is expected to open during the 2010-2011 Broadway season.
