Meron Langsner BIO

MERON LANGSNER is an award-winning playwright, theatre & performance scholar, and educator as well as a critically acclaimed fight director & movement specialist for theatre, film, & opera.

He was one of three writers in the country selected for the pilot year of the National New Play Network Emerging Playwright Residencies, fulfilling his residency at the New Repertory Theater in Boston, Massachusetts. Meron's plays have been performed around the country and overseas and developed at venues that include the Lark Play Development Center in NYC, New Rep, Playwrights Commons Freedom Arts Retreat, the Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festval, and the Last Frontier Theatre Conference in Valdez, Alaska (where he later had the honor of returning as a featured artist). Publishers of his dramatic work include Bloomsbury, Smith & Kraus, Applause Theatre Books, and YouthPLAYS.

Meron's scholarly work on theatre and performance has been published by McFarland, Oxford University Press, Puppetry International, the Electronic Journals of Martial Arts and Sciences, and other imprints. In 2010 he was a Summer Fellow at Northwestern University's Performance Studies Institute. He has presented his research and taught workshops at numerous scholarly conferences throughout the United States and Canada, including: ASTR, ATHE, the Comparative Drama Conference, and the International Puppetry Conference. Meron has also written on theatre for popular and trade publications including Backstage, HowlRound, The Theatre Times, and The Sondheim Review.

As a fight director and movement specialist, Meron has composed violence for well over 150 productions, tours, and films. He has worked with A.R.T. - The American Repertory Theatre, ArtsEmerson, Merrimack Repertory Theatre, New Repertory Theater, Lyric Stage Company, Ensemble Studio Theater, and several academic venues, with many productions winning regional awards.

Meron holds a PhD in Drama from Tufts University, an MFA in Playwriting from Brandeis, and an MA in Performance Studies from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. He did his undergraduate work at Carnegie Mellon University and SUNY Buffalo.

In celebration of Black History Month, co-producers Megan Smith and Alphonso Walker Jr. present a fresh revival of Dutchman by Amiri Baraka, an emotionally charged and highly symbolic version of the Adam and Eve story. Directed by Broadway performer and director, DeMone, this production has an immersive concept, leading the audience into a recreation of the subway atmosphere and seating audience directly in the train car. The play runs February 8-11, 2018 at The Secret Theatre; tickets on sale now.

The show comes to The Tank following a successful engagement at the Lower Ossington Theatre in Toronto produced by DeCo. Mortal Folly Theatre Brings OVER HERE to FringeNYC, Beg. Today


Mortal Folly Theatre will present the premiere of award-winning playwright Meron Langsner's Over Here as part of the 2014 New York International Fringe Festival. The play focuses on the unlikely friendship that forms between an Israeli immigrant and a Palestinian-American in NYC in the aftermath of the September 11th terrorist attacks. Although the events of the piece take place in 2002, the subject matter remains highly topical today, especially in regards to current events. The writer states,

Gallery Players to Stage EQUUS, 12/7-22


Riding the successes of Blithe Spirit and The Pajama Game, the Gallery Players presents Equus as the next production of its 47th Season. Alred Gingold* (Manhattan Theatre Club, Metropolitan Playhouse), leads the cast in the behemoth role of Martin Dysart. Joining him are Dean Thomas and Adelind Horan as Alan Strang and Jill Mason, respectively, in their Gallery premieres. Gallery alumni Rosalind Ashford* (Gallery: History Boys) and Greg Horton* (Gallery: A Man of No Importance; NYIT 2012 Outstanding Actor in a Lead Role) will appear once again as Dora and Frank Strang. After leading The History Boys to success last season, Mark Gallagher will again direct aided by Choreographer Christiana Axlesen. The production will be brought to life under Set Designer Young Jaung, Costume Designer Tony Johnson, Lighting Designer Scott Borowka, Sound Designer Jacob Subotnick, Props Designer Sara Slagle, and Production Stage Manager Kathleen Parker. The cast includes J.B. BWW Review: PUNK ROCK Packs a Punch


Zeitgeist Stage Company's production of Simon Stephens' play, inspired by the Columbine shooting, hits very close to home on the heels of the Newtown and Boston Marathon tragedies. Director David J. Miller and an outstanding cast of teens and young adults handle the material responsibly and realistically. PUNK ROCK is an important play with an articulate message that needs to be heard over and over and over again.
