With a tone reminiscent of Sarah Vaughan, melodic lines inspired by John Coltrane and Miles Davis coupled with soulful yet funky vibes, Melanie Charles is the quintessence of Soulful Jazz. A Haitian- American, Brooklyn born native, she attended LaGuardia High School for Performing Arts (the Fame School), where she discovered her talent for writing, playing the flute, and musical theatre. She has also worked with the Classical Theatre of Harlem, and renowned actor, Andre DeShields in "Dream on Monkey Mountain" under the direction of Alfred Preisser. Melanie has toured the world with major soul acts and has opened up for super stars such as John Legend and India Aerie. Melanie is a 2010 graduate of the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music under the tutelage of jazz masters such as Reggie Workman, Charles Tolliver, and Junior Mance. In April, she released her first self-produced album entitled Introducing Melanie Charles and the Journey".
