It is a brave artist indeed who tries to capture the complex nature of the career of Carly Simon. That is the task that Marnie Klar sets for herself in her show MARNIE KLAR SINGS CARLY SIMON, which had an encore performance Monday evening at Don’t Tell Mama. It is clear that Ms. Klar has great respect for Carly Simon and possesses a great deal of knowledge about how her songs came to be. Like Simon, she is quite a beauty and has a great dexterity with language. She also shares with Simon a wide emotional range.

After over a decade of collaboration, Gracie Lee Brown and Thomas Hodges are recording a Live Album of their show 'Say Goodnight, Gracie' at Don't Tell Mama in New York City. Gracie explores the great loves of her life while singing a heartbreaking setlist of original songs by Thomas Hodges.

A light-hearted, gut-punching, mournful dissection of singlehood, love, romance, loss, and maybe most importantly: an indomitable desire for Gavin Creel. But, every Say Goodnight, Gracie is different. There's a wonderful rotation of musicians including bassists, vocalists, saxophonists, and my personal favorite: a very nervous dad, playing the Ukulele.

Every Monday, showbiz superstars hit the stage alongside up-and-comers, serving up jaw-dropping music and general razzle-dazzle on the Birdland stage. Showman Jim Caruso guides the entire affair with razor-sharp humor. Musical director Billy Stritch holds court at the ivories, along with Steve Doyle on bass and Daniel Glass on drums. But the real fun starts when the audience participates in the onstage festivities. Broadway legends, jazzers, cabaret divas, starry-eyed tourists, and kids right off the bus storm the stage to entertain each other. Special committees selected the nominees in the Ensemble Instrumentalist, Piano Bar Instrumentalist, Piano Bar Singing Entertainer (Female; Male), Recording (LaMott Friedman), Major Recording, Song and Comedy/Novelty Song categories.

The nominees, in a majority of the categories, were determined by votes cast by the active MAC membership. The MAC Board of Directors selected the nominees for Show of the Year. Special committees selected the nominees in the Ensemble Instrumentalist, Piano Bar Instrumentalist, Piano Bar Singing Entertainer (Female; Male), Recording (LaMott Friedman), Major Recording, Song and Comedy/Novelty Song categories. The names of the songwriters in the Song and Comedy/Novelty Song categories are being withheld during the voting period, but will be announced publicly as soon as the voting period concludes.
