Judd Hirsch is an American actor with a career spanning over five decades. Born in the Bronx, New York in 1935, Hirsch began his acting career in the early 1960s, performing in Off-Broadway productions and regional theater. He made his Broadway debut in 1966 in the play "A Thousand Clowns," for which he won the Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play.
Hirsch continued to work on Broadway throughout the 1970s, appearing in productions such as "Knock Knock" and "Talley's Folly." In 1980, he starred in the Tony Award-winning play "I'm Not Rappaport," which also earned him a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actor in a Play.
In addition to his stage work, Hirsch has had a successful career in television and film. He is perhaps best known for his role as Alex Reiger on the hit sitcom "Taxi," which aired from 1978 to 1983. For his performance on the show, Hirsch received two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.
Hirsch has also appeared in numerous films over the years, including "Ordinary People," for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Other notable film credits include "Independence Day," "A Beautiful Mind," and "The Meyerowitz Stories."
