Spectrum News NY1's ON STAGE Will Look at the Thanksgiving Day Parade


This week host Frank DiLella will take an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of the iconic Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade by covering the full process, from rehearsals all the way to the parade route. DiLella will get up-close with Executive Producer Susan Tercero, Creative Director Rick Pomer, Creative Producer Welsey Whately and Senior Director of Production John Piper to discuss the parade's history and how hundreds of employees, family and friends, and Broadway stars help to carry on the annual tradition that features an array of beloved balloons from Snoopy to SpongeBob SquarePants, and of course jolly Old St. Nick. In addition, a world famous Radio City Rockette will share her first-hand experience performing in the parade.

San Francisco Opera presents Benjamin Britten's masterpiece of law and order on the high seas, Billy Budd, in six performances at the War Memorial Opera House September 7–22. Based on the unfinished novella by Herman Melville and set to a libretto by E.M. Forster and Eric Crozier, Billy Budd returns to the Company's repertory after a 15-year absence in the “powerful” (New York Times) staging by Tony Award-winning director Michael Grandage. Lawrence Renes conducts the San Francisco Opera Orchestra and an all-male cast of 75 artists, including 44 men from the San Francisco Opera Chorus prepared by Chorus Director Ian Robertson and 8 boys from the Ragazzi Boys Chorus. The performances coincide with the Melville bicentennial and the 100th anniversary of the posthumous discovery of the American author's unfinished manuscript ofBilly Budd.

The upcoming 2nd Annual Mammoth Film Festival is announcing its slate of World Premieres. This year's festival runs February 7-11, 2019 in the town of Mammoth Lakes, CA. Mammoth Film Festival will unleash the Jean-Claude Van Damme starrer WE DIE YOUNG as its Opening Night Gala World Premiere film on Thursday February 7. WE DIE YOUNG is an action thriller directed by Lior Geller (award winning short Roads) and stars Van Damme, David Castañeda (Sicario: Day of the Soldado, End of Watch), and Elijah Rodriguez (Sicario: Day of the Soldado, Book of Life). Last year's inaugural festival drew headlines for being 'the biggest first year film festival ever organized' and this year's lineup and events aim to repeat and expand the momentum.

Recorded Books Acquires christianaudio


Recorded Books Inc., a leading provider of unabridged audiobooks and digital content to the library, school, and retail markets, announced today that it is has acquired eChristian Inc., a publisher of Christian audiobooks that operates under the christianaudio brand and is based in Escondido, California. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. This marks the third acquisition for Recorded Books, following the additions of HighBridge Company and Tantor Media in 2014. Recorded Books now boasts a catalog of over 27,000 unabridged audiobooks, making it one of the industry's largest. Recorded Books is owned by Shamrock Capital Advisors.

Portraits from Snowdon Archive to Be Displayed at National Portrait Gallery, 9/26


An important display of portraits by Snowdon from the 1950s to the 1990s has opened at the National Portrait Gallery, London, it was announced today, Friday 26 September, 2014. The display includes portraits from his recently announced gift, one of the largest in its history, of 130 original prints to the gallery, of some of his most iconic photographs. Highlights include from 1978 actor Terence Stamp dramatically clothed up to his neck in a cape and Dame Maggie Smith photographed with a cigarette and script in hand rehearsing the title role in Ibsen's Hedda Gabler for Ingmar Bergman in 1970.
