Brooklyn Art Song Society To Present Canteloube's Chant's d'Auvergne


On Friday, November, 1st, Brooklyn Art Song Society presents the second installment of its series Home with a rare complete performance of Joseph Canteloube's magnum opus, Chant's d'Auvergne. Canteloube collected the folk melodies of the Auvergne region and imbued these whimsical, earthy tunes with emotional depth and a rich Straussian harmonic palette. The work will be performed in the original piano version and sung in the French dialect Occitan. Soprano Maria Valdes and mezzo soprano Devony Smith make their BASS debuts, joined by sopranos Marnie Breckenridge and Laura Stricking. Art Historian Patricia Mainardi (CUNY) gives a pre- concert lecture at 7:00PM.

The Early Night Show With Joshua Turchin released the live performance of 'I Won't Grow Up, Or Will I?... a Peter Pan-Inspired Medley', a parody medley arranged, co-written, and performed by Joshua Turchin (A Christmas Story, The Pill, TrevorLive LA) and Ellis Gage (James & the Giant Peach World Premiere). Joshua Turchin also served as the music director and accompanist. The parody is a humorous and touching dialogue delving into the mind of pre-pubescent boy sopranos who fear the inevitable onset of puberty when they must face the reality that they will, in fact, grow up. Joshua Turchin will return to The Green Room 42 with his cabaret series, 'The Early Night Show with Joshua Turchin,' on February 10, 2019 at 2pm. Turchin has previously performed two successful shows, 'The Early Night Show at The Green Room' and the 'West End Lounge,' and regularly music directs and accompanies at The Green Room 42's (YOUNG) cabaret series. Special guests from Broadway, television and film will join Turchin on stage. Carnegie Hall's Lullaby Project Reaches Hundreds of Families Throughout 2018-2019 Season


This season, approximately 700 families in New York City, across the country, and around the world will take part in Carnegie Hall's Lullaby Project, a program which pairs pregnant women and new parents with professional artists to write personal lullabies for their babies, supporting maternal health, aiding child development, and strengthening the bond between parent and child. In New York City, the project will reach parents at 15 different sites, including healthcare settings, homeless shelters, high schools, foster care, and correctional facilities.

A lullaby is a simple expression of the most universal human condition, the bond between parent and child. One of the earliest lullabies in recorded history was written in 2000 BC, and 2018 marks the 150th anniversary of Brahms' Lullaby, so this precious musical tradition has deep cultural and emotional roots.
