Four TPS fellows - chosen from a competitive application process - will work under the direction of Kenley Smith, director of the TPS program, to develop new full-length scripts to be presented in a public reading at the Darkhorse Theatre this fall. Two Associates will serve as alternates for the program and will contribute to monthly workshop sessions in the first year and will fill two TPS fellow positions in 2019. TPS will work with actors from the Nashville community for workshops and readings.

The Alley Theatre's Alley All New Festival, January 20-28, 2018, features six playwrights and more than 30 actors from the Alley and around the country who will be presenting new work through a series of readings and workshop performances. In addition to Alley Resident Company members, many artists have existing connections to the Alley and some are making their Alley debut. The start of the festival will celebrate the reopening of the Neuhaus Theatre. American Bard Theater Company presents Visionary Voices, three poignant, tantalizing plays by two pioneering women playwrights, exploring gender roles, race, and death in America's early twentieth century.

Beginning one week after the election, Primary Stages commissioned a collection of over 70 pieces written by a diverse array of playwrights from their artistic community. Each artist crafted a short monologue from the perspective of a character in America on the morning of November 9th.  Undertaking MORNING IN AMERICA acutely reflects the responsibility and capability of a non-profit, artist-focused organization to respond directly and rapidly to current events. Through readings, talk-backs and roundtable discussions, Primary Stages strives to create an accessible and energetic space where artists and audiences can come together as a community to share their stories and process their experiences.
