Ben Berry BIO

Ben created the role of Don in the World Premiere of Tennessee Williams' autobiographical play THE PARADE. He was recently seen in Peregrine Theatre Ensemble's HAMLET as Hamlet, and Mark in RENT. Other recent roles include Leontes in THE WINTER'S TALE and Candide in the Leonard Bernstein masterpiece CANDIDE.
After receiving much critical acclaim for his portrayal of Romeo in ROMEO & JULIET, which was the first Shakespeare performed at the new Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis, Ben's comedic chops earned him a 'Best Performance' title in the Cape Cod Times for playing Agnes in SCHOOL FOR WIVES. Ben has been seen in the premiere of INSATIABLE HUNGER starring Lea DeLaria; WIT starring McNeeley Myers; and with Adam Berry in PHILADELPHIA HERE I COME.
After graduating from Sheboygan North High School where he earned numerous awards both regionally and nationally, Ben accepted an invitation to join the third class of the University of Minnesota/Guthrie Theater B.F.A. Actor Training Program. There he studied with a wide array of accomplished artists including Mark Rylance, John Barton, Andrew Wade, Thomas Prattki, Scott Freeman, Kenneth Washington, Marcela Lorca, and Kenneth Noel Mitchell. Ben became a founding member of the hit theater company Shakespeare on the Cape, the first successful theater company to be created from students of the U of M/Guthrie.
Other notable credits include the Off-Broadway revival of Tom Jones & Harvey Schmidt's musical, CELEBRATION (14th Street Theater); Matt in THE FANTASTICKS (Skylight Opera); William Barfee in THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE (dir. Terry Norgeot); Young Scrooge in A CHRISTMAS CAROL (Guthrie Theater); Celia in AS YOU LIKE IT (SOTC/Guthrie); Ariel in THE TEMPEST (SOTC); Betty/Edward in CLOUD 9 (SOTC);; Harlequin in TRIUMPH OF LOVE (Wellfleet Harbor Actors' Theater); Young Man in A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE (Provincetown Tennessee Williams Festival dir. Ben is a proud recipient of the prestigious Ruth DeYoung Kohler Award for Artistic Excellence.

Yet this ending is leaving audiences speechless. Once again, Pleasant's thoughtful twists on a classic show both modernize its relevance and deepen its resolve.

BWW Review: The “Hart” of Theater Beats for Peregrine's CHICAGO

When the unconquerable Billy Flynn and the ensemble sing of that "old razzle dazzle," they sing of corruption and deceit - of wicked things turned into truth when presented in just the right light. Under the pretense of being decent in a world of easy exploitation and unremorseful women, Billy's smile is a falsity he doesn't care to hide - his performance as showy as the lights which illuminate the stage. Transforming the lives of the potentially dead murderesses of Chicago into a form of entertainment for the masses is manipulation at its core - it is just one of the reasons Kander and Ebb's Chicago has remained one of our favorite musicals for so long. Now, we can all be grateful for Peregrine Theatre Ensemble's current production of the longest running American musical in Broadway history, happening right in the heart of Provincetown.

BWW Review: You've Got Us Sold with BUYER and CELLAR at the Provincetown Theater

When a play like Buyer and Cellar is written, a show about aspiring actor Alex Moore who finds himself employed by Barbra Streisand to work in her basement mall, you actually become grateful that someone not only thought of such an amusing idea, but also managed to almost effortlessly turn it into some sort of ingenious production. When you see a single actor take the audience so willingly through the ins and outs of the most interesting job anyone will ever have, you have a feeling the show will be great. You have this sort of "how come I didn't think of that" moment, followed by moments of wondering how such an idea can possibly make its way to the stage. Give up thinking about it because you're not going to actually see the brilliance of Buyer and Cellar until you see it brought to life by the Peregrine Theatre Ensemble.

Casting Announced for Peregrine Theatre Ensemble's Production of BUYER & CELLAR

Casting has been announced for Peregrine Theatre Ensemble's final production of their 2016 season: Buyer and Cellar by Jonathan Tolins and starring Nic Cory. Opening August 22nd at the Provincetown Theater.

Thou Hath No Fear to Shed All in Peregrine's FULL MONTY

With a book by Terrence McNally, music and lyrics by David Yazbek and now under the direction of (and also featuring choreography by) Terry Norgeot, The Full Monty has arrived at the Provincetown Theatre, in association with Peregrine Theatre Ensemble. Based on the cult-hit film of the same name, this ten-time Tony-Award nominee is one of the most unconventionally 'real' musicals you are ever bound to say; it is a surprisingly dramatic story trapped in the body of a semi-comedic musical, and the songs are an added bonus in bringing both its characters and the audience away from real-life issues by the comedic way in which they are dealt with.
