Named one of the a?oe10 Contemporary Asian and Pacific Islander American Playwrights You Should Knowa?? by ArtsBoston, Liu is the latest playwright to be produced by NCTC's New Voices/New Work program. For this production, NCTC is proud to partner with Chinese Culture Foundation of San Francisco, Chinese Historical Society of America Museum, and Gay Asian Pacific Alliance.

I was super excited to learn that SF Playhouse was kicking off its 19-20 season with Clare Barron's a?oeDance Nationa?? based on what I'd read and heard about its 2018 world premiere at New York's Playwrights Horizons. I was certain it was going to be right up my alley: an edgy, satirical, unsettling play that looks at gender, body image, burgeoning sexuality and our unhealthy obsession with competition and winning a?' and from a feminist perspective to boot. As added enticement, the play won the prestigious Susan Smith Blackburn Prize and was a 2019 Pulitzer finalist. It thus makes me very sad to report that, having now actually seen the play, I am left mystified by the rapturous response it received in prior productions.

The Eli and Edythe Broad Stage in Santa Monica presents Our Country co-created by Becca Wolff and Annie Saunders, and directed by Becca Wolff with original writing by Saunders and devising by the company.  Our Country will be performed on Saturday, November 9 at 4pm and 8pm, and Sunday, November 10 at 2pm.

Berkeley's acclaimed Aurora Theatre Company(Artistic Director Tom Ross) announces today the six plays that will comprise the theatre's 28th season, beginning with the Bay Area Premiere of Ike Holter's energetic drama, EXIT STRATEGY. The Bay Area premiere of Bryna Turner's BULL IN A CHINA SHOP follows. Lucy Kirkwood's recent Broadway hit THE CHILDREN will kick off the new year as a West Coast Premiere, followed by Joe Orton's classic LOOT in a production honoring the playwright's unseen and uncensored version. San Francisco Playhouse announced today the six plays that will comprise its 2019-20 Mainstage Season. With a lineup that includes both brave new works and re-imagined classics, the company solidifies its commitment to providing a home for the most essential voices in theatre. American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.)
