Netflix has announced the cast of Tyler Perry's Beauty in Black, an all-new series coming soon to Netflix. The series comes from a previously announced creative partnership with Netflix, where Perry will write, direct, and produce feature films and series under a multi-year first-look deal. 

Each week, they’ll welcome a variety of guests from across the pop culture spectrum into the Hamlin’s kitchen, including Lisa Rinna (Real Housewives of Beverly Hills), Bobby Moynihan (Saturday Night Live), Ted Danson (Curb Your Enthusiasm), Mary Steenburgen (Book Club), Dean Norris (Breaking Bad), and more. Looped, a three-person play about Hollywood’s original diva Tallulah Bankhead, is now playing at Westwego Cultural Center. Performances run from November 9th through November 19th, 2023.

AMC Networks has licensed the U.S. and Canadian linear and streaming rights to Nautilus, a 10-episode live-action series inspired by Jules Verne’s beloved Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, from Disney Entertainment. Nautilus tells the origin story of the iconic Captain Nemo: an Indian Prince robbed of his birthright and family.

The Gotham Film & Media Institute announced the nominations for the 33rd Annual Gotham Awards, singling out 20 feature films, 11 series, and 30 performances in ten award categories. The nominations were announced live from Cipriani Wall Street by Jeffrey Sharp, award-winning film producer and the Executive Director of The Gotham.

AMC Networks has renewed its hit series Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches for a second season. The second series in a growing Anne Rice Immortal Universe on AMC and AMC+, Mayfair Witches premiered last month to strong viewership on AMC and dethroned Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire as the #1 new series premiere in the history of AMC+.

This second series in a growing Anne Rice Immortal Universe on AMC and AMC+ also delivered 1.7 million viewers on the company’s linear networks in Nielsen live+3 ratings. The linear performance makes Mayfair a top 10 cable drama for the 2022/23 television season in both the adults 25-54 and adults 18-49 demos.

Mike Payette Artistic Director of Tarragon Theatre and Managing Director Andrea Vagianos will present the World Premiere of Post-Democracy, which ends the calendar year at Tarragon. The play, written by Hannah Moscovitch, runs in the Mainspace from November 8 - December 4, 2022 (opening November 16, media opening November 17). 

RLJE Films, Shudder and AMC+ have partnered and financed the highly anticipated thriller, THE APOLOGY. Directed and written by Alison Star Locke, in her feature film writing/directing debut, THE APOLOGY stars Anna Gunn (“Breaking Bad,” Sully), Linus Roache (My Policeman, “Homeland”), and Janeane Garofalo (Wet Hot American Summer, Reality Bites).

As is often the case the BTG production is a high-quality production where seemingly everyone involved has played their role and done their work well. There is, however, one aspect I certainly did not expect. Laughter. At several points throughout the three acts in 2-hours, audience members responded with giggles, which I found rather confusing

The season one premiere on June 12 attracted an audience of 2.2 million viewers on AMC in Nielsen live+3 ratings, becoming the #5 cable drama premiere of the current broadcast TV season. Dark Winds is also the #1 new series launch in AMC+ history.

AMC Networks has announced that it had greenlit a new series starring Bob Odenkirk for 2023 called Straight Man, with partners Sony Pictures’ Television TriStar TV and Gran Via. The project was announced as fast-track development earlier this month in advance of AMC Networks’ upfront event in New York City, and that turned out to be one fast track.
