 The 24 Hour Plays: Viral Monologues will return on Tuesday, October 26th, with an all new series of unforgettable performances. Thirteen actors have been paired with writers who have crafted unique pieces especially for them. From 6 PM until 10 PM, new monologues will be published every 15 minutes.

The Jewish Plays Project has announced the acting company of the 10th Annual Jewish Playwriting Contest. The ten works feature acclaimed actors including Clea Alsip (M. Urban Stages has announced Urban Stagesa?? September Play Fest & Fundraiser, a series of virtual readings of plays by Urban Stagesa?? artists. These online performances will fundraise to continue the theatera??s decades-long efforts of discovering and producing new plays by diverse up-and-coming artists.

In the mountains of Turkey, the residents of a village spend winters in near-silence to avoid triggering an avalanche. This year, their survival rests on the shoulders of Yashar, a pregnant woman whose impending due date threatens the safety of generations. Compassion and the common good clash in the English-language premiere of this stunner by Iranian playwrights Jaber Ramezani and Payam Saeedi.

Play On Shakespeare today announces an expansive list of compelling actors and dynamic directors confirmed to participate in the Play on! Festival, presented in association with Classic Stage Company (CSC) and Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF). Play on! features 39 readings of new, work-in-progress translations of Shakespeare's plays into contemporary modern English by some of today's most exciting playwrights-May 29-June 30 at the Lynn F. Angelson Theater at CSC (136 E. 13th Street). In 2015, Oregon Shakespeare Festival launched an ambitious 39-play, three-year commissioning project, Play on!, tasking 36 playwrights-more than half of whom were women and playwrights of color, each paired with a dramaturg-to translate Shakespeare's canon in celebration of the enduring impact of the Bard's work. Supported by a generous grant from the Hitz Foundation and inspired by long-time patron Dave Hitz's passion for Shakespeare, the project was and continues to be led by Lue Morgan Douthit. Premiere Stages, the professional theatre company in residence at Kean University, has named alumnus Tariq Hamami '06 as the winner of the 2019 Bauer Boucher Playwriting Award. The Award recently increased from $250 to $2,000 as part of a major five-year sustaining gift from longtime donors W. John Bauer and Nancy Boucher. In addition to the cash prize, Mr. Hamami also received two professional public readings of his play at Kean University in Union and Lantern Hill Retirement Community in New Providence. Based on a true story, the play, Smail, dramatizes one man's imprisonment and persecution during the Algerian Civil War.
