BWW Review: Warm and Wistful Comedy Explores Family Bonds

Biddeford's City Theater opened its season with a warm, wistful comedy about love and intergenerational relationships in a New Jersey Italian-American family. Joe Di Pietro's 1998 Over the River and Through the Woods is a funny, touching, and often penetrating memoir about ageless conflicts between old and young and the inevitable changes that come in relationships with the changing times. In the City Theater of Biddeford's production, these completely relatable memories come to life with vivid truthfulness.

BWW Review: Pinter's A SLIGHT ACHE Given Outstanding Production at Group rep in NoHo

There's nothing like a Pinter play for stimulation and excitement. The playwright, in fact, has his very own adjective 'pinteresque'. Stephen Sondheim has immortalized him in song in 'The Ladies Who Lunch' from Company. He's the top, so why aren't his plays easier to figure out? One thing is certain, they provide an emotional workout for the actors involved. Now onstage at the Upstairs theatre at Group rep in NoHo, A Slight Ache is receiving a superb production with exemplary direction from Kevin Dobson and a fine cast of three, who really exercise/exorcise their demons within the 70-minute time.frame.

BWW Reviews: THE FULL MONTY at City Theater - Fun & Nudity in Maine

While you may be primed for seeing the stage version of The Full Monty based on seeing the movie of the same name, you'll be surprised that the stage show presents in depth characters, emotional scenes and true life situations that make great storytelling. The characters boldly face such obstacles as unemployment, divorce, and depression but always with a comic flair. The show is loaded with fun musical numbers, creative choreography, and hilarious sight gags from truly absurd situations.
