Lynn University's Conservatory of Music Hosts 14 musical Events in September and October

Jon Robertson, dean of Lynn University's Conservatory of Music and Philharmonia Guest Conductor, today invited the public to attend 14 musical performances during September and October 2016.

"Our talented students and extraordinary faculty look forward to sharing the beautiful world of music during our seventh season in the Keith C. and Elaine Johnson Wold Performing Arts Center, a world-class concert hall that enhances our performing artists' musical offerings," said Robertson. "We will present a variety of musical offerings designed to enrich the artistic spirit and nourish the soul. Please join us in September and October as we kick-off another magnificent season."

Conservatory of Music concerts run from September through April in the Keith C. and Elaine Johnson Wold Performing Arts Center, the Amarnick-Goldstein Concert Hall and the new Snyder Sanctuary, all located on Lynn's Boca Raton campus.

Five Centuries of Bassoon Music

· Eric Van der Veer Varner, bassoon

Join Eric Van der Veer Varner for bassoon music ranging from the Renaissance to the modern era. Critically hailed as "the epitome of the 'with-it' academic," Varner performs with great passion and more than a little humor as he strives to bring the sounds of the bassoon to a wider audience.

Keyboard Master Class with Michael Tsalka

Michael Tsalka earned his bachelors degree from Tel Aviv University; a piano solo diploma from the Scuola Superiore Internazionale del Trio di Trieste; and three degrees, including a doctorate in piano performance, from Temple University. He has presented 75 master classes and lecture-recitals. Tsalka was the artistic director of the Bach Festival in Beijing and co-artistic director of the Nordic Historical Keyboard Festival in Kuopio, Finland.

J.S. Bach: The Art of the Fugue with Keyboardist Michael Tsalka

Performing with equal virtuosity on the harpsichord, fortepiano, clavichord, square piano, chamber organ and modern piano, Tsalka presents a wide span of music, from early Baroque to the present. He will perform on the conservatory's historic fortepiano and its new double-manual harpsichord, built by conservatory student John Weisberg.

2016 Lynn Concerto Competition Final Round

Finalists perform before guest judges Robert Sullivan, trumpet (Northwestern University);

Borivoj Martinic-Jercic, violin (Iowa State University); and Marina Lomazov, piano (University of South Carolina). Winners perform as soloists with the Lynn Philharmonia Nov. 12 and 13, conducted by Maestro Guillermo Figueroa.

Piano Master Class with Marina Lomazov

Marina Lomazov has given performances in South America, Asia, Europe and in nearly all 50 states. She has performed as soloist with the Boston Pops, Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and Piccolo Spoleto. She is professor of piano at the University of South Carolina where she is founder and artistic director of the Southeastern Piano Festival.

Violin Master Class with Elmar Oliveira

Internationally renowned performer Elmar Oliveira, Lynn's Distinguished Artist in Residence, is a devoted teacher and promoter of young violinists. He was the first violinist to receive the coveted Avery Fisher Prize and the first and only American violinist to win the Gold Medal at Moscow's prestigious Tchaikovsky International Competition.
