For Véronique Côté, creating theatre for babies is like trying to talk to the beginning of time.

At the end of a path edged with pebbles and seashells stands a tent, where two smiling young boys—a captain and his mate?—wait to welcome us. Inside the cosy shelter, a fantastic world gradually comes to life.

Using just enough words to sketch the story, the play threads together beautiful images of the sea like pearls on a string. The sound of the waves, the blue of the water, the fish, the sand, the boats… we are swept away by a gentle flood of memories and feelings.

Véronique Côté has crafted an extraordinarily tender and delicate work. Sprinkled with poems, images, spellbinding music and harmonies, the play awakens very young audiences to poetry and beauty.
