Student Blog: Put On A Happy Face

The past couple weeks in college have been extremely tiresome. My assignments seem never-ending, and I just want to focus on the holidays. I felt like I had no time to do the things that I loved and that was really taking a toll on my mental state. I failed to realize that one of the things I missed the most was theatre, and I still do because I have not been in a show in over year. It's a tough situation but I am trying my best to look on the bright side. I wanted to share with you a few musical songs that are about starting fresh and are perfect pick me up songs when you need a little boost to your day. They certainly have helped me.

Dancing Queen from Mamma Mia: This song is almost a given in any upbeat celebration. I have loved this song since I was a kid, and it never fails to cheer me up. Everyone knows the words and it is a great way to dance out some stress!

Someone In The Crowd from La La Land: This song is so so so fun! The first seconds are so upbeat and funky. It's so whimsical and is a reminder of the possibilities in life when you take risks. The movie is great too!

I'll Make a Man Out of You from Mulan: A little more unconventional but this song has been engrained in my brain since I was young. It is very inspiring, uplifting and just so catchy. I imagine that I can do anything when I put my mind to it.

Put On A Happy Face from Bye Bye Birdie: The message of this song could not be any clearer. Dick Van Dyke holds so much comfort and happiness in my heart and this song is the perfect amount of subtle energy to make you feel good inside.

I Know It's Today from Shrek the Musical: This is a perfect reminder that though things may not always go your way, it is important to stay hopeful and look on the bright side. Staying confident and hopeful is a great confidence booster, and this song holds all those qualities. Not to mention the harmonies are so perfect.

Take A Break from Hamilton: One of my favorites from Hamilton, this song is so cute. The beginning with little Phillip to the great harmonies from Eliza and Angelica, what more could you want? And the message is so important, remember to take a break because if you don't, things could take a turn for the worse.

There are so many more songs I could add to this list, but these are great starters when you need a little something bright to your day. I recommend making a happy playlist or something similar, so you have easy, quick access whenever you are feeling down. This also reminds me that I should really branch out to other musicals. I feel like I listen to the same ten all the time and I cannot even imagine all the fun songs out there that are waiting to be discovered.
