Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Awards Sarah Clack Directing Honors

"Cal State Fullerton students had wonderful success this year at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival in Los Angeles this week," notes CSUF Department of Theatre and Dance Chair Dave Mickey. The 2019 KCACTF Region 8 Festival, including Arizona, Central and Southern California, Guam, Hawaii, Southern Nevada and Utah, was held February 12-16 in the Los Angeles Theater Center in downtown Los Angeles. The 2020 Region 9 Festival will be hosted by California State University, Fullerton (CSUF).

CSUF student Sarah Clack won a Stage Directors and Choreographers Society (SDC) Student Directing Award and will be going to Washington, D.C. for the national conference, April 15-20. Sarah Clack is a current CSUF undergraduate theatre student from Burbank, California who has performed, choreographed, stage managed, and directed and will be graduating this May. Brittany Bostick won a "theoretical paper project design award" in costumes for her designs for "American Idiot" and Matt Katterhagen and Aung Khine Min succeeded in getting into the directing finals.

CSUF sent five Irene Ryan nominees to the regional festival, including Noah Michal (Dustin Frye, partner), Jessica Schreiber (McKenna Oldmixon, partner), Charlie Diamond (Seth Weaver, partner), and Caleb Gibson (Mykah Atkins, partner). Two advanced to the regional finals including Jessica Schreiber (McKenna Oldmixon, partner) and Noah Michal (Dustin Frye, partner). The Irene Ryan Acting competitions provide recognition and honors to outstanding student performers wishing to pursue further education and are named after the American actress, best known for her roles on Broadway in "Pippin" and in television as "Granny" in "The Beverly Hillbillies" (1962-1971).
