The Dare Tactic Presents WONDER BOI, Book, Music And Lyrics By J. Jarrett.

The third workshop in The Dare Tactics 4th Season, Wonder Boi, book, music, and lyrics by J. Jarrett, Wonder Boi tells the story of Jackson, who is navigating his identity as both a transgender man and as a superhero. When Jackson and his sister, Peyton, take a mysterious drug, Jackson gains the powers of super strength, flight, and self-healing. However, Peyton has an adverse reaction and her brain begins to decay. As these siblings re-evaluate their relationships to their body and brain, they must save their college campus from ultimate destruction. Casting for this workshop includes Jacob Michael, Carrie Swan, Pat Suarez, Sam Leopold, Abigail Garber, Lincoln Millard, Jamie Shapiro, Kelsey Kindall, and Jasen Miyamoto. This workshop is directed by Nina Roy. The Dare Tactic sat down with writer J. Jarett to get to the heart of Wonder Boi.

The story and idea spark from J's love for superheroes and that he, "always felt a strong connection to Peter Parker (aka Spider-Man). Most superheroes have an incredibly complicated relationship with their identities and bodies, as do many trans folks like myself. I wanted to create an empowering piece of art that shows the journey of a trans dude navigating his identity."

J. Jarrett believes that, "The Dare Tactic is committed to producing work by underrepresented artists. You can see by their season that they have a strong commitment to diversity and know it's time for creative teams to be more than just cisgender, white, straight dudes. It's clear to me that Dare Tactic believes that there are stories to be told that it is their duty to lift up - and great art is happening because of it. I'm aware that Wonder Boi is messy and complicated, and Dare Tactic has taken it on in all of its beautiful messiness."

Founded in 2014, The Dare Tactic is a New York based theatre company dedicated to producing new, innovative, original works by underrepresented voices. Artist Bios

Jacob Jarrett is a New York based composer/playwright whose mission is to bring queer stories to the stage. Most recently, his musical Normativity was developed in the Polyphone Festival at the University of the Arts following a run at New York Musical Festival in 2016. Jarrett is the recipient of New York Musical Festival's "Outstanding Emerging Artist Award" as well as the Ira Brind School of Theatre Arts' "Excellence in Playwriting Award." Other writing credits include: Aubade, Brief Connection(s), and Hearts, Brains, and Other Organs.
