Skeleton Rep(resents) Presents DEVICES OF TORTURE At FringeNYC

Skeleton Rep(resents) will present Caroline Bennett's DEVICES OF TORTURE directed by Ria T. DiLullo as part of the New York International Fringe Festival - FringeNYC (638 Washington Street, Corner of Charles St.) October 13-22. Performances will be Saturday, October 13 at 8:45pm, Monday, October 15 at 9:45pm, Saturday, October 20 at 6:30pm, Sunday, October 21 at 5:30pm, and Monday, October 22 at 9pm. Tickets ($22) are available for advance purchase at www.FringeNYC.org. The performance will run approximately 90 minutes, with no intermission.

In DEVICES OF TORTURE, a one-act play premiering at FringeNYC this fall, four dominatrixes navigate their daily work, life, and relationships in the days following the 2016 election. Love isn't the only thing that hurts.

For playwright Caroline Bennett, writing this play has been "my attempt to process the 2016 election, as well as my thoughts on power, gender, and (of course) sex. The show presents left-of-vanilla sexual identities as normal expressions of self and love, and showcases strong women attempting to move forward during a massively disruptive moment in history."

Featuring Olivia Jampol (AJAX, NYT Critics pick, The Flea), Miranda Poett (Whatchamacallit: A Play about Jesus, The Secret Theatre), Isabella Jane Schiller (Garbage Person Karaoke, Capital Fringe), and Miranda Noelle Wilson* (Ryan Raftery's Titans of Media Cabaret Series, The Public).

Caroline Bennett is an NYC-based playwright whose one-act comedy Garbage Person Karaoke appeared at Manhattan Repertory Theatre and the Capital Fringe Festival. Devices of Torture is her second show.

Ria T. DiLullo is a theater director & creative developer based in NYC, her hometown. As artistic director of The Skeleton Rep, her mission is to explore modern myth, in particular through new works and a specific attention to the body. The Salon Series is The Skeleton Rep's development lab, where Ria opens up her home to a new script that's ready to be heard by a supportive community, which ends in a party. Many of the shows that she has produced and directed originated as one of the 36 salons she has produced. Ms. DiLullo is also the recipient of a Manhattan Theatre Club Directing Fellowship ('17 - '18) and a Rockwell Scholarship for directing at Primary Stages ESPA ('16 - '17). She is currently in residence at The Tank, a Manhattan-based multi-disciplinary arts presenter and producer.

We want to use the bare minimum needed in addition to the human instrument to tell these stories. The goal is to create new work and present it honestly, with purity and expression through the body. When we make theatre together with fulfilling, challenging, and interesting roles that also push us past ourselves, we strengthen our community and the theatre cannon, by adhering to what is most rich, most communal, and most articulate.
