FRIDA LIBRE Returns To Queens Theatre for Encore Run After her resounding success last season, renowned actress and singer Flora Martínez returns with her tour-de-force performance as Frida Kahlo in Frida Libre at Queens Theatre Nov. 8 through Nov. 18.

"I'm looking forward to seeing my friends again at Queens Theatre," Martínez said via a video clip this week.

Martínez shares Frida's remarkable journey through stories and songs accompanied by live music under the musical direction of Jose Reinoso.

After years meticulously studying the life and work of the iconic artist, Martínez wrote a script that delves into Frida's success, politics, art, sexuality and the years of physical pain that followed a trolley accident.

She also explores the complex and complicated relationship between Frida and muralist Diego Rivera, who was 20 years older than her when they first married.

"There have been two great accidents in my life," Frida once said. "One was the trolley, and the other was Diego. Diego was by far the worst."

Frida Libre offers audiences a reflection with a historical perspective on forgiveness, the de-intellectualization of art, sex, love, freedom and political thought.

"Seeing Flora Martínez as Frida Kahlo was one of the most extraordinary performances that I personally have ever experienced," Queens Theatre Executive Director Taryn Sacramone said. "Flora is both vulnerable and commanding at the same time, as only the most compelling actors are, and the fact that she's woven songs throughout to forward the storytelling and really get at the emotional truth of Frida's life is unexpected and unforgettable. For me, this production is about two extraordinary women: Frida, and also Flora."

Frida Libre, a production of Queens Theatre and Artistry in Motion Group, will be presented six times in English and four times in Spanish during the show's run. Check the theatre's website at www.queenstheatre.org for complete schedule and accessibility information.

Tickets are $20-$42, and available at the theatre's website or by calling the Box Office at 718-760-0064.
