Anne Durity - A packed Opera House in Cork, Ireland ,was our venue to see "London Assurance" from NT live. What an experience! We howled, we stood and applauded at the final curtain, as if we were there! Each member of the cast was superb, especially Sir Harcourt Courtly! But... the icing on the cake was the performance of our very own Cork star, Fiona Shaw. Her mother, Mrs. Wilson, and family were in the audience with us, I believe, and must have been so thrilled to see her in this splendid tour-de-force. Roll on the Autumn schedule. Not to be missed, if Monday night was any indication.

Volado - Has sido demasiado generosa con la obra. No hace falta ser crítico de una página de musicales para darse cuenta de que la obra, tal y como está planteada, no llegará ni a la vuelta de la esquina. Los estereotipos gays no son nada dañinos, comparados la estructura narrativa de un guión que flaquea por todas partes y que es incapaz de atrapar la atención de los espectadores más de 10 minutos (a excepción de familiares y allegados). No sólo perdí 10 euros, sino que además perdí 2 horas de mi tiempo en ver un "musical" que - al margen de los innumerables errores de sonido - carece de ritmo y podría ser interpretada por niños de primaria en cualquier escuela de pueblo.

simplybroadway - "Bring down JRB?" That's dramatic! How is asking him a few questions and qualifying his actions "bringing him down?" Do you think it's EVER appropriate for someone to accuse someone of stealing when they do it themselves? Again, I'm not saying he is, I'm still checking it out. But honestly, there probably aren't too many people who have never stolen anything in their lives, even if it's just a pencil from work. I'm not at all saying that bootlegging of anything is right. I just didn't like his arrogant attitude about this topic. Then if you read how he took this poor teenage girl to task about it, it made it even worse. She asked specifically for her name to not be used and he agreed, then used her name!

celina - Actually, the company that is getting advertising on the show for their chicken coops delivers the coops FULLY ASSEMBLED. The company is Horizon Structures, you can see the company name and phone number on the workers T-shirts in the TLC -approved paparazzi photos that were supposed to generate press for this nothing of a tv show. This is taken directly from the company website, copied and pasted in: • Coops are delivered FULLY assembled and ready for same day use. • CURBSIDE delivery is included in the price. "Curbside Delivery" means that your coop will be brought onto your property and unloaded in your driveway or yard (adjacent to your driveway) Kate does not have any "Amish friends." TLC is a big fate joke and lies all the time about Kate Gosselin. She hasn't lifted a finger in years, only to get a manicure.

Joe Regan Jr. - I was the casting director of that production and because we had 2,000 people show up for the open call the first day I told them to announce that we would set up appointments day and night for the next three weeks but if anyone had made a trip they would be seen that day. I'm sorry this message did not get to Andre but he gave a very exciting audition and made it through all the callbacks and was cast in the Chicago company and went on to greater glory and stardom. S. Reynolds - You can easily downloaded music for 4.00 - 5.00 for auditions from places like musicnotes.com that sell the sheetmusic for your use at auditions. Forego Starbucks for a week and you got a whole slew of music for auditions. Sacrifice for this vocation, don't ask others to sacrifice for you. If you have to get a second job to pay for lessons and legally obtained music, do it. I have been a professional actor for forty years and yes, it is a calling but it is mine and no one else should have to sacrifice for it (including the much maligned JRB) I have no idea the type of person JRB is. I only know him from his work and it is his work that is at issue here. However, he is simply asking that people stop abusing his work through this means. Most people probably didn't realize the import of what they were doing and ceased. Have the decency to honor his request. And by the way, try getting rights from the Rogers and Hammerstein group sometime. They watch over the work of R/H as closely as when they were living and producing their work on Broadway. They would heartily cheer JRB for his efforts to keep a close eye on his own work.

Dan - Yeah i noticed several changes to the London show last week. 'Morning Report' scene was completely removed The fun part with Timon & Pumba selecting bugs in the 'Hakuna Matata" song was cut down to Young Simba just finding a few prop bugs on the floor like some school production! The beautiful orchestral number & romantic wire work in the middle of 'Can you feel the love tonight' was completely removed. WHY?! I heard that Thomas Schumacher said that it was for "for their continued success".....Wait did i just hear that.... It's been running for 12 Years!!!! Where i'm from theres a saying 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it' I think the producers are getting a little power hungry, I hope they will soon think to themselves, 'what were we thinking!' and then revert back to the original successful way of presenting Disney's The Lion King the way Julie Taymor originally directed it to be.

Elyot - Cont'd I will assume you wrote that lengthy comparison on the Facebook thread to authors, painters, DVDs, etc. It doesn't hold up. If I bought a copy of sheet music and wanted to turn around and sell my one copy at a garage sale, I would be just as within my rights to do so as the guy who sells the ONE copy of the novel he bought at the same sale. The novel that gets sold over and over again is still only one novel and only owned by one person at a time. The copyright law is to keep me from buying one novel or piece of sheet music, COPYING IT, and then selling 20 copies at the garage sale. Or even giving them away for free. (True, I'm allowed to make a limited number of copies of some media, but for my own personal use only.) It's really the right to COPY that's protected. I pay for one copy, it's mine to keep or sell or whatever; that ONE copy. I resell it, now someone else has it and I don’t. This applies just as much to books as to sheet music. Sheet music just happens to be a lot easier and cheaper to copy that an entire novel.

Elyot - Cont'd Same thing with paintings. One painting, one owner, one payment to the artist. Paintings not being all that easy to reproduce, and the market not valuing copies of paintings very highly, the painter charges a couple of thousand bucks on up, while the songwriter is getting a percentage of $4? This is why the songwriter needs to get paid for ALL the copies. Okay, some painters do multiple lithographs or a limited edition of signed prints of their work. Say they do 200 lithographs. If I understand your logic, it seems they should only be able to charge for the first one they sell. But they don't, do they? They'd be nuts to just charge for one print or the original and give the rest away because they "already got paid for that work."

Elyot - Cont'd But each of those prints INDIVIDUALLY can be sold and resold without any further payment to the painter because they became the property of whoever bought them to do with as they see fit, except to COPY them! Hey, it's called COPYright! When the kids online share sheet music, they're not selling their copy to one other person. They're responsible for the creation of additional copies, while still keeping the one they've got. Even if they’re sharing them for free, they’re depressing the market for the songwriter’s work. They are RIPPING HIM OFF.

Elyot - Cont'd You seem to have it out for composers, at least this one, and want to play "presumed guilty until proven innocent." Whether you think the copyright law is FAIR or not, Brown has the law on his side and is no way on trial here. We live in a capitalist society, like it or not, and part of the system is looking out for one's own self-interest. That's all JRB is doing and he's perfectly within his rights. And if, in the process, a teenaged girl learns that you're not entitled to something that's not yours just because you want it or insist you need it, so much the better.

Elyot - Cont'd You also make assumptions about the Broadway greats, like Richard Rogers, who did not live in the electronic information age during which copyright violation has become so much easier and infinitely more widespread. You don't how they would have responded to today's conditions. Something tells me if they saw how much money internet/sharing was taking our of their pockets, they’d have something to say about it. Again, I ASSUME. Neither you nor I knows for sure. And you're right. It may be an uphill battle, maybe even a losing battle, but I still applaud JRB for speaking his piece and standing up for his lawful rights. I do not require that people be perfect themselves or have a "spotless" personal history before they are allowed, in my book, to take a stand for themselves. I did get your point. “Nobody has the right to complain unless they’re completely innocent themselves.” I presume he is, until I have reason to believe otherwise.

Don Treact - This is the first web site currently listed under Angela Lansbury Night Music play. I found out that there are at least three phone numbers to the Walter Kerr Theatre. None work. One directory assistance operator was certain on my question to her, how to contact the actual theatre in a medical emergency, and then gave me a number that instantly told me of benefits for use of my credit card. Good thing I take notes.

Elyot - Simply Broadway - Wrong, fella. If we're going to assume, we could, if we WANTED to, assume JRB bought the rights to the artwork outright. It's called a buyout in the entertainment industry. You give up your rights to any future claim on monies earned from the product. Non-union film and TV actors do it all the time. I'm told almost all print modeling work is on a buyout basis. For all I know, the album artwork could also be a buyout. It could be the property of the CD producer who would get his or her cut when the CD SELLS and therefore would be more than happy to see it promoted on a personal website. Nobody's making money promoting it, the money comes when it SELLS. Or maybe the graphic artist gets a cut when it sells. I don't know. It depends on their contract. But you want me to assume JRB is ripping them off. I'll pass.

BwayBebe - It is interesting to see how some people these days feel that the world is indebted to them because they like something or someone. Sorry folks, not true. Just because one can get something for free without paying for it doesn't mean you should. What ever happened to values? Sad to see that those are falling by the wayside. I think the way this Eleanor person is behaving (and those who support her) is a very sad reflection of the lack of values of today's society. JRB gave a great rationale why he believes the way he does and I don't think he was nasty or disparaging to her at all. Those people who are trying to find a way to sink JRB are not doing a good job of it - your points are futile and you just need to get over the fact that your arguments aren't working. Its about time that someone is making a stand for what is right and both JRB and his wife are doing so and I for one applaud them for that.

Penny - Oh good for him! I would so love to see David in a play, but depends on whether or not I can get over from UK in Oct? He wouldn't make it in musical theatre then? I'd agree with him on that! LOL! And in case he ever read this (slim chance I know) but well...? Hope he remembers I am only jesting, as we met online in the past and he told me he wished he could sing! simplybroadway - You miss my point. I'm saying that unless JRB is innocent of doing the same thing himself, he shouldn't be complaining about his own works. He's also using the copyrighted artwork from his shows to promote the CD's on his personal website. It doesn't appear that he's listed any permissions to use the artwork, so we can only assume he's using someone else's artwork to promote his CD's and not paying them for their use.

Nancy Andrews - I worked in Warren, OH for seven summers when I was a kid. I loved every minute of it. Having the opportunity to know John Kenley and work around him is something that is etched in my mind and my heart until I die. He was WONDERFUL! He could be silly and ridiculus, but he was so smart and such a great business person that to "to know him was to love him. I once saw him jump up onto the stage during a rehearsal to show the dancers in a chorus line how to do the steps. He had to be in his 60's, but he could kick as high and dance as well as any of those kids in that chorus line. Thank you John. I love you! The world is such a better place because you were here. You brought love and light and the arts to a small town in Ohio, and to thousands and thousands of people who would never have known live theater had it not been for John Kenley and his brilliance. simplybroadway - Well, how idiotic is this?! First of all, it's highly unlikely that Jason Robert Brown has never stolen anything in his life...office supplies from work, too much ketchup or napkins from a fast food restaurant, or not been charged for something at a store and not said anything about it. "Artists" get all sanctimonious about their "work" being stolen, but I see "artists" all the time stealing other things that they don't think twice about. Secondly, a LOT of libraries don't carry musical theater scores and vocal selections, especially esoteric ones like JRB writes. I just called two of my closest libraries and they don't have any of his materials. I just checked the Los Angeles Public Library, they had ONE copy of "The Jason Robert Brown Collection," one was a reference copy (meaning it CAN'T be checked out) and the other was already checked out. So if a person needed a song TODAY for an audition tomorrow, they'd be out of luck going the library route. Thirdly, he advocates checking materials out from the library, but what's to stop someone from xeroxing the materials once they have it out of the library, which by the way, is a VERY common practice and has been since the advent of copy machines. You can even go to the library and xerox the reference copy! I'm sure Jason Robert Brown never did any such thing in his lifetime, never copied an encyclopedia for a school report, never made a tape of an album or song to give to anyone. I wonder how many of the REAL Broadway greats were so terribly worried about their songs being illegally used by their fans. I can just see Richard Rodgers upon being asked to autograph a piece of his sheet music...."Did you purchase this legally?!" Is Jason Robert Brown also getting on top of all the theater companies that xerox the scripts and scores they rent from the publishing houses when theaters do his shows? And what about all the copies of those copies that they make for their friends? You're fighting an uphill battle. You should be grateful that you have fans that enjoy your music enough to want it.

Elyot - The scenario of suddenly "needing sheet music for an audition tomorrow" is a sign of an actor/singer who is unprepared. A pro will have an audition repertoire prepared at all times, with sheet music in the their key, and covering a variety of styles, to be ready for any audition on short notice. Amatuerishness is no justification for stealing.

@loganculwell - You really don't think JRB deserves money for the work he puts into composing his songs that people love so much? Why do you think people are entitled to other people's works for free just because they have an audition? Music is not hard to find or acquire for a reasonable cost in this world, and no one is forcing you to sing any one composer's music, or even to go to the audition. I guess all Broadway shows and cast recordings should be free for everyone too, eh? Otherwise it won't get out there. If this way of thinking infects more people, eventually none of the content you love so much will be being created anymore. There's already WAY fewer vocal scores and cast recordings being published, which is a shame. A published vocal score usually gets a higher editing standard than the illegal scans that circulate the internet. I, for one, try to support this business so it will continue to exist. Products will only exist if they make money for someone, so if I want them to exist, I will support them with my wallet.

Zanna - Love his music. He's of my favorites. A super-talent. Barbra Streisand sings a wonderful and strong version of "Never Will I Marry" on one of her early albums. That was the first time I heard the song and loved it.

joan - I saw this phenomenal piece of theatre today in Bath. The weaving together of biographical details and extracts from the plays, all held together in the 'seven ages of man' is absolutely seamless. Brilliant. Elyot - Copy "rite?" A sacred ceremony conducted at the Xerox machine? Copy "wright?" One who makes the copies? Like a boatwright or a wheelwright? How about a copy editor for this blog? It's copy"right", FYI, as in holding the legal right to make and sell copies. Who are these sniveling actor/singer wannabes who feel entitled to free sheet music just because they "need it?" If the day comes that they get hired for their talents, are they going to waive their salary or convert it into free tickets so other theatre people can see their work for free? I doubt it. It's called a "day job" people. Get one and show how you value a genius's work by being willing to spend a bit of your hard EARNED money on it.

Steve - I think the replacement tribe never was able to bond with Hair lovers the way the origional tribe did. Perhaps management took the NY fans for granted when they moved most of the first tribe to london. The seconf tribe was very good and probably would have made a stronger impact if they were the ones who were in london. In any case, the Hair experience was wonderful and I wish it would run for another year.
