Brandon D. - Seriously. SRS talks ad nauseum about being "Half Mennonite" in her delightful show. Where this author got Joseph Smith and Mormonism from is baffling. Perhaps the author confuses words that begin with the same letter. Note to Pat Cerasaro: while "Mormonism to Mermanism" is clever it's about as accurate as "Martianism to Mermanism".

TLC Renews New Wedding Series FOUR WEDDINGS For Second Season 2010/05/13
Posted: 5/14/2010
Wendy - As an event planner I watched this show twice by myself and the last time I asked my husband to watch it with me. The reason I did this was I noticed that the first two times the bride with the big budget won. I wanted to make sure that I wasn't being petty. Now mind you they were nice weddings. But if each one of those brides had all of that money to throw at a wedding I think they all would have been different. The one on the beach may have had a tent for shelter, the other won't have run out of food. There would have been cocktails at the cocktail style wedding. I also noticed that the brides that won could have paid for their own d*** honeymoon. Put a limit on the budgets or match the budgets better. The way it is now makes the other brides look cheap & cheesy & they are not. They were very creative with what they had and should be proud.

BWW Reviews: GIRLS NIGHT THE MUSICAL at the Kimmel Center 2010/04/24
Posted: 5/14/2010
Barb - I think their weight, though it has absolutely nothing to do with the show itself, was refreshing, I'm a real woman. I have curves and I'm proud of them. I'd rather see real women than anorexic sticks. People that make comments about weight are rude and more than likely they have weight issues themselves. As for their beauty- I think they're probably all very beautiful girls under the terrible costumes and outrageous make up- who are you to judge their attractiveness? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Don't let bitter people get you down girls. I saw the show and I thought you were all very talented. Though some bits were over the top I had an all around great time as did my friends. We'll be back to see it again!

McG to Helm 'Spring Awakening' Movie Musical 2010/05/14
Posted: 5/14/2010
LauraBellLover - The movie would be a HUGE money maker and hit, and probably really good too if they cast as follows: Lea Michele as Wendla (she's the original and she's super huge now) Zach Efron as Melchior (who wouldn't pay to see Zach get naked with Lea - I think he could probably sing it too) Jonathan Groff as Moritz (even though he originated Melchior on stage - for screen he's more of a Moritz, he's getting really famous too and he's good, and he knows the part even though he never played it and would probably get an oscar nod if the movie was good) None of the other parts really matter as much :o) But it would be cool if they got the other gay glee kid who plays Kurt to play the gay kid in the movie. Here's to hoping the movie ends up being GREAT! It might work or it might be terrible.......... we'll see.........

BroadwayWorld.com Announces Broadway Critics Report Card 2010/05/12
Posted: 5/14/2010
Candy - Indeed, critics should always keep in mind that the job they undertake can influence many who, either lack their own opinions or convictions, or just go along due to lack of time for more research and just decide to give these critics undue credit. I agree that creating a "report card' for them is preposterous. Critics have killed many a great show with their comments by keeping Theatergoers, who would otherwise have enjoyed such a show, away from the door. I understand that some critics might want to critique every aspect of a show with extreme care to the artform being presented, but they also need to know that this can quickly get to the extreme of underscoring a good, perhaps great, show. And the sad outcome would be that the public will abstain from engaging a show due to the misleading scores. The notion that the Theatre patrons should be the ones rating the shows is perhaps a better idea.

BroadwayWorld.com Announces Broadway Critics Report Card 2010/05/12
Posted: 5/14/2010
Candy - (continued from previous comment) Critics should be allowed TWO scores: One for "their" opinion of the artistic/theatrical aspects of the show, and, slash, another for how enjoyable and engaging the show has proved for the average Theatergoer. This way, people will have a more adept measurement of whether the show will be something they want to see or not. For those of us, including mainly the critics, who are beyond savvy about the Theater, let's not forget that as an art form, it should be left to its patrons to decide its worthiness in "their" opinion.

roseaddams - ...are you drunk? No, he should not received a second nomination for the exact same work he did twelve years ago which got nominated then. There's nothing wrong with reusing the costumes -- but they were already seen and nominated in the same show. If it wasnt for Holly Madisons name on that marque that show wouldnt get half the people in to see it. Holly looked absolutely amazing in person and she did a great job performing her numbers as well. I had a chance to meet Holly Madison in person at the meet and greet after the show and she was such a sweetheart and talked with me for a few and took photos with me as well. I cant wait to go back to Vegas so I can see Holly Madison in Peepshow again! She gets an A+

You get a little bit of everything in the emotional spectrum - humor, passion, anger, etc. There are also real insights into human tendencies and it left me thinking about the nature of creativity and the influence that drugs can have. The cast was a great fit. They each played a part in revealing the gems in this play. Tome Sime is extremely talented and I look forward to seeing more of his work.

Posted: 5/13/2010
happytune - The venue was fine. Julie and company performed this same show 5 times in America, 4 of which were in huge arenas about the size of the O2. There was no backlash from any of the US concerts; people were not so rude and disrespectful of the performers to get up and walk out during the show. I saw people leaving after Simeon's Gift and couldn't believe my eyes. Having seen the show before, I knew that "Edelweiss" would be coming and had heard that she would sing "A Cockeyed Optimist." The folks demanding their money back have no recourse to do so. It's your responsibility to know what you're going to pay money to go see. Blame no one but yourself.

Bright colors, sometimes garish to make a point of dispassionate people holding too-high-tech objects - great commentary on modern life smart phones/dumb consumers, etc. And totally unique: His google earth pics of famous and iconic landmarks around the globe, painted and challenging the beholder to figure out just what it is - Yankee Stadium? Sydney Harbour Bridge? Tour du Eiffel? I am going to commission something from Yianni who, btw is a truly hilarious, gregarious guy. I will be at Agora (next year Pagora? add a letter each year?) this weekend and hope to meet him again. Spot on, mate. Albert Marsico, Maryland

Metacritic - I'm wondering why anyone hasn't pointed out that this is one of the worst scripts on the planet. Having seen the NYMF production (twice, because I simply couldn't believe it could be that bad), I am dumbfounded at the connection between the otherwise talented Kaller and the clearly astute Sandberg being persistently associated with this production. Abandon every last hope, all ye who enter here. In yet another case of clever translation, both productions that I attended were clearly NOT sold out (and that's presuming the lowest possible number of comp tickets to give the impression thus) and there were many empty seats. Notable to many might be the fact that this production is having its "world premiere" in Ohio. Good luck. Looks like there's now competition to see what's meant by the term "mistake-by-the-Lake"...

'IDOL' WATCH: Down to 3 2010/05/12
Posted: 5/13/2010
Suz - Casey James-the weak link? You cannot be serious? Of the final 4, only Crystal and Casey have consistently offered perfect vocals (aside from James' problems with Sinatra week which came as a result of bad acoustics as defended by Harry Connick Jr.), and Casey is an amazing musician-his guitar skills are second to none! Did you not watch him carry the duet? I understand American Idol is about pop stars and Crystal and Casey will never fit that cookie-cutter mold. But with Casey has to offer is far better than Lee or Michael or many of the other contestants...he's an amazing blues/rocker who plays a mean guitar. And he's a gentleman...despite ridicule, childish antics and completely useless critiques, he's put himself out there, week after week, and survived this far. He's never responded negatively to any comments hurled his way, and is very self-deprecating. This isn't just about pop music. This is about the whole package, and Casey James is the whole package! He is a star already, and I have no doubt, long after Lee or Michael have disappeared off of the radar, Casey James will be making music which millions of people will want to buy!

Jay in MN - Saw the show last month for the first time. It was AMAZING. I've been a fan of Beatles music for a long time and had seen one other Cirque show (Mystere), but was impressed with how the music was featured first and foremost--the show was built around it. Well done!

Denny Crane - Totally wrong venue and ill-advised venture, the second half being the musicalisation of the vanity publishing efforts of Miss Andrews and her daughter entitled Simeon's Gift. Miss Andrews deserved better. Not for the first time in her career her management and advisors let her down - suprisingly her husband wasn't involved in the project as that is usually the curse on anything she does. One comment here said, "Edelweiss was a rich reward..." She sang 30 seconds of a 3 minute song! The only person getting rich was Miss Andrews pocketing a reported £250.000 fee.

Mary from PCHS - What a wonderful thing ... thank you Ellen for stepping up and showing support for the homeless cats and dogs across the country. You provide a strong voice for those who cannot speak for themselves. You bring a positive, uplifting presence to this problem that can be so overwhelming. By working together we can help these animals find adoptive homes where they are loved and cared for. Paws and Claws Humane Society located in Rochester, MN, is working hard to educate the public about the problem of pet overpopulation and the need to spay and neuter companion animals. Our mission is to provide humane protection and shelter for abandoned or lost animals with the goal of securing adoptive homes for each animal in our care. Thank you again for your voice and your passion to help animals. Mary A. (paws and Claws Humane Society)

West End's CANNIBAL! THE MUSICAL Cancelled After Rights Pulled 2010/05/12
Posted: 5/13/2010
treyfan - from whatsonstage.com The show, adapted from the cult 1996 film bySouth Park creator Trey Parker, was first seen Off-Broadway in 2001 and had a run at the 2008 Edinburgh Fringe care of the Rival Theatre Company production, the company behind the London transfer. In a lengthy statement, Rival Theatre Company co-founder Frazer Brown said: "I am deeply saddened to announce the cancellation of Trey Parker’s Cannibal! The Musical at the Leicester Square Theatre. The rights Holder Jason McHugh unexpectedly and suddenly pulled his permission for rights usage. The decision is shrouded in mystery as Mr Mchugh's responses have become increasingly vague the past few weeks. “Mr McHugh recently contacted me to inform me that there was a cash sum on offer by Scott Rudin, Trey Parker and Matt Stone to cancel our proposed London production and postpone it for a year, in hopes of drawing attention to their upcoming Book of Mormon production on Broadway next year. Mr Mchugh until this point had been enthusiastic about our production, director and casting. This ‘blackout’ offer didn’t materialise. I was then abruptly instructed to limit my number of performances to 35 and cancel all further plans for the production including a proposed transfer and tour. “When I questioned the reason behind this limitation I was told the rights are now no longer available. Period. Mr McHugh cited that he has decided to develop the piece with the producers of Evil Dead the Musical, sometime next year, he also cited unpaid royalties as a factor. No royalty sum had been agreed by Mr Mchugh as we were still discussing these aspects of the production. “This reprehensible and immoral behaviour on the part of Mr McHugh has left me frustrated and angry, having worked towards this production for over three years now investing large sums of money and time, to see it fail at this point is deeply upsetting. I am currently seeking legal council regarding reparations and damages. "I can only apologise to those that have already bought tickets for the show, and to the fans of both Trey Parker and South Park that were looking forward to seeing the show. Mr McHugh has not only let you all down but also our cast, Director, Marketing companies and countless other associated professionals. Please contact your ticket vendor regarding refunds."

Aimée - @darlena: I think you mean TOM Curry is the Aussie actor/comedian! (must admit I've never heard of him however). Looking forward to seeing this, will be good to see Tim Curry playing a serious role as they seem so few and far between. He's a fine classical actor and highly underated as such...I hope his advancing years will see him choose more roles like this and perhaps more stage work too.

BroadwayWorld.com Announces Broadway Critics Report Card 2010/05/12
Posted: 5/13/2010
Candice - critics' opinions are hardly ever accurate. why dignify them with a report card? seems to me you should let the users grade the shows. to me, that would be far more indicative of which shows are worth seeing. For example, Wicked only earned about a 5, yet is still grossing over a million each week six years later. obviously the critics were blind to what has people constantly going to (and back) to that show. additionally, next to normal only got a 7, I have not heard of one person who didn't like that show (though I am sure they are out there) plus it won a Pulitzer! I could go on, but I'm not going to go through show by show. plus I'm sure people will already give me heat for using Wicked as an example. I just don't understand why it's monumental success has caused people to somehow resent it and its fans like myself. I love the theatre, my interests are nowhere near limited to just Wicked, or to just the more popular mainstream musicals for that matter. Plus no one should complain that Wicked is getting people into the theatre! :) the more the merrier. haha sorry, random tangent.
