Patty - I saw the show last night, and maybe Alice Ripley's cold explains why she seemed to never actually reach her notes. I kept thinking that it was part of her character, and held out hopes that after her character's therapy Alice would be on key. I really am not trying to be mean, but it became actually painful for me to listen to her. On the way out, several people were saying the same thing. Maybe her ears were plugged up and she couldn't hear herself. That is the only explanation that I can see as to why a professional who won a Tony for this role was always half a note below where she should have been. Sorry.

km2131 - She has a reasonably good voice, but is completely lacking in originality and wit. The show was nothing more than a puerile and narcissistic performance that was neither interesting nor entertaining.

Palace Theatre Presents THE FOUR PIANO MEN, 2/18-3/5 2011/02/08
Posted: 2/26/2011
FiFi Whitney - Kudos to Carl for such a unique production of song and dance-the choreography paired with the music of these 4 piano legends was wonderful and the sets really brought you back to the songs eras. The costumes were fabulous and numerous. In addition, the dancers were funny, poignant, and well trained. The music was a trip back in time and there wasn’t one song that I didn’t identify with. Nearly everyone was singing or dancing in their seats. It’s fantastic to see something so special in the Manchester area. Keep ‘em coming!!!

Raymond - I've looked for Dean Butler & Michael Sterling's BROADWAY WORLD.COM report about MTW's CATS production, but haven't seen it. I'm wondering why they didn't report about this wonderful production, directed & choreographed by Dana Solimando, and starring some of the greatest performing artists in the country! Dean & Michael missed a rare opportunity to report about this CATS production which was MTW's BOX OFFICE MEGA-MEGA HIT!! This was MTW's highest grossing musical ever!! They opened their doors for business 52 years ago. CONGRATS Musical Theatre West for a job well done!!

Michelle Nicastro Passes Away at 50 2010/11/05
Posted: 2/26/2011
Rick - I remember seeing Michelle in an episode of Airwolf. Although it was many years ago, I remember her being absolutely beautiful and although I had NO IDEA she could sing, I REALLY liked her voice. Very feminine and angelic. To me her appeal was not unlike the beautiful voice of Karen Carpenter. Sadly, both of these talented women left too soon. Heaven is a brighter place with her passing.

Jensen Lee - The James Taylor show provides a great night with a talented songwriter. The verses of James Taylor’s breakout hit “Fire and Rain” describe different phases of Taylor’s life to that point. I recently posted on my Rockaeology blog at http://tinyurl.com/358fhey that first verse was about the suicide of Taylor’s friend Suzanne Schnerr. Other verses describe his battle with heroin addiction and depression. Taylor was hospitalized in Manhattan and at Austen Riggs, a psychiatric facility in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Taylor’s “Sweet dreams and flying machines” refers to his former group, the Flying Machine.

Jensen Lee - It’s great that “Beehive” brings renewed attention to one of the great girl groups of the 50s and 60s, the Shirelles. One of their best, “Dedicated to the One I Love,” originated with the great 50s R&B group, the “5” Royales and its guitarist Lowman Pauling. I recently posted on my Rockaeology blog at http://tinyurl.com/64t75gl the story of how Pauling’s pioneering use of feedback and echo influenced guitarists like Eric Clapton.

Glenn Schmoll - I saw LES MISERABLES 7 times when the first touring company hit San Francisco. I was fortunate enough to work as office manager and massage therapist for one of the best SF chiropractors, the late Dr. Lowell Houser. I was privileged to massage leading man, Javert, Richard Kinsey, who composed New Age type music and was also related to the distant relative, Alfred; leading lady Fantine, Kelly Ground, and the handsome Enjolras, Craig Oldfather for the 18 months they were the sensation of San Francisco. I've seen several women sing Eponine's haunting "Out here on my own" but nobody comes close to the performance given by Misty Cotton. SWEET! Glenn Schmoll, manshands@yahoo.com, Fort Bragg, CA

Review - Black Tie: Culture Club 2011/02/17
Posted: 2/25/2011
An out of towner - I love Gurney's work and was excited to see the play open at same time I was in the city. However, I thought the play was thematically tired, that the actual structure of the plot, offered little momentum or variety during the first fifteen minutes or so, an eternity in what proves to be a short play. I was not dazzled by the directorial choices. The family was supposed to be out of its element in this Adirondack mistake of a motel, yet the airline bag that Curtis draws his father's elegant things from looked as though it cost fifteen dollars on 8th street. Praise for the detailing that went into this play seems unearned. I have always felt that Gurney deserves greater recognition in the American theater, but I don't think this play makes that case. I think it needed more revision, and wonder how much guidance the director gave to the playwright here.

Michael Rosenbaum Returns as Lex Luthor for the 'Smallville' Series Finale 2011/02/16
Posted: 2/25/2011
Ms. B - I can't see Rosenbaum as as comical char on any sitcom and Superman whether anyone likes it or not was made for Tom Welling he owns it as far as I'm concerned. It suits him well...humor ar, ar... I think they need to regroup (the writers) and turn it into and phenomially super show....only bring Jimmy back....we can live with a Jimmy and Chole (who no one has ever heard of) all of the main char's including Martha (<<< secretively wish they would bring Jonathan Kent (John Schneider) back to life. They all fit their parts exceptionally well. Yes some story lines should end but not this one. Tom Welling is and extension of where Christopher Reeve left off and I'll say it again, he does it so well (Tom Welling). Listen Tom, if you're reading this... sure you're entitled to go and extend your "portfolio" other than Smallville but to me....and maybe I am the only one who is thinking this way and yes it's only a tv series but it's one where you get used to things like when I was growing up with the Waltons. To be continued...

Michael Rosenbaum Returns as Lex Luthor for the 'Smallville' Series Finale 2011/02/16
Posted: 2/25/2011
Ms. B - continued comment... I don't think there should be a season finale at all. I'm a firm believer in family ties .....I hope this is making sense, but I've watched you on this series for quite some time.....you did Christopher Reeve justice...and I'd like to see it continue even longer. To: Michael Rosenbaum... you probably think you need to expand your options further....you probably do.....but you 're young.....I can tell the grass is not always greener on the other side. You're a "legend" in your own right....you've mastered the char of Lex .....you own it....well think about y'all....especially the creators and writers... why kill something that has worked for years and can continue to do so... do not close your minds just yet...there's more out there...the world needs "live" heroes there are oh so few out there... ty for listening Ms. B

Her voice is amazing the way she belts send shivers down my spine.I also thought the comedy elements she brought to the role were well interpreted and gave the audience a chance to understand this difficult score and the torment and intelligence of this character. I really hope that Samuels is given the opportunity / guidance to develop further as she is still so young
