WAYNE & LEDA - My Fiance & Myself Went to the 2/23/2011 showing at 8 P.M. We both want to tell you that this play was very exciting, full of life, songs, and a cast that was fantastic. This play brought back alot of memories, both good and sad, but they were the events of our time. We want to tell every one that was born during this time frame, well they should go out and see this play. This play will bring back memories from childhood to adult. In a wrap up this play was as tony the tiger would say GGGGreat. This is a must see. From a retired BabbyBoomer VietNam Veteran and his Fiance.

Review - Black Tie: Culture Club 2011/02/17
Posted: 2/25/2011
An out of towner - I love Gurney's work and was excited to see the play open at same time I was in the city. However, I thought the play was thematically tired, that the actual structure of the plot, offered little momentum or variety during the first fifteen minutes or so, an eternity in what proves to be a short play. I was not dazzled by the directorial choices. The family was supposed to be out of its element in this Adirondack mistake of a motel, yet the airline bag that Curtis draws his father's elegant things from looked as though it cost fifteen dollars on 8th street. Praise for the detailing that went into this play seems unearned. I have always felt that Gurney deserves greater recognition in the American theater, but I don't think this play makes that case. I think it needed more revision, and wonder how much guidance the director gave to the playwright here.

Michael Rosenbaum Returns as Lex Luthor for the 'Smallville' Series Finale 2011/02/16
Posted: 2/25/2011
Ms. B - I can't see Rosenbaum as as comical char on any sitcom and Superman whether anyone likes it or not was made for Tom Welling he owns it as far as I'm concerned. It suits him well...humor ar, ar... I think they need to regroup (the writers) and turn it into and phenomially super show....only bring Jimmy back....we can live with a Jimmy and Chole (who no one has ever heard of) all of the main char's including Martha (<<< secretively wish they would bring Jonathan Kent (John Schneider) back to life. They all fit their parts exceptionally well. Yes some story lines should end but not this one. Tom Welling is and extension of where Christopher Reeve left off and I'll say it again, he does it so well (Tom Welling). Listen Tom, if you're reading this... sure you're entitled to go and extend your "portfolio" other than Smallville but to me....and maybe I am the only one who is thinking this way and yes it's only a tv series but it's one where you get used to things like when I was growing up with the Waltons. To be continued...

Michael Rosenbaum Returns as Lex Luthor for the 'Smallville' Series Finale 2011/02/16
Posted: 2/25/2011
Ms. B - continued comment... I don't think there should be a season finale at all. I'm a firm believer in family ties .....I hope this is making sense, but I've watched you on this series for quite some time.....you did Christopher Reeve justice...and I'd like to see it continue even longer. To: Michael Rosenbaum... you probably think you need to expand your options further....you probably do.....but you 're young.....I can tell the grass is not always greener on the other side. You're a "legend" in your own right....you've mastered the char of Lex .....you own it....well think about y'all....especially the creators and writers... why kill something that has worked for years and can continue to do so... do not close your minds just yet...there's more out there...the world needs "live" heroes there are oh so few out there... ty for listening Ms. B

Guest - I have to agree with Nick I have now seen this twice and Samuels blew me away. Her voice is amazing the way she belts send shivers down my spine.I also thought the comedy elements she brought to the role were well interpreted and gave the audience a chance to understand this difficult score and the torment and intelligence of this character. I really hope that Samuels is given the opportunity / guidance to develop further as she is still so young

Michael Presser to Guest Narrate Phil. Concert Operetta Theater's Opener 2011/01/20

Shewolff77 - Rhomberg was insistent upon the regular appearance of Joseph Toner. He is the lost and yet recently rediscovered brilliant discovery by the Schuberts and appeared in their operetta's for half a century. His powerful three octave rull voice range, made Joseph Toner a major force on Broadway and the National Theater all his life. After a near fatal event in WWI, Joseph Toner returned as a War Hero, having refused Irving Berlin to join Yip Yip Yaphank, and wast snached again by the Shuberts for the first production of Blossom Time for which he is still not credited! The person who is credited here for the operetic part Joseph Toner usually played, is known best as a Chorus singer and non-operetic singer. It is not determined that Mr. Martinet in fact played Von Schwind. It is noteworthy that at least for the ENTIRE run of the show, Toner would have otherwise been wasted talent by the Schuberts who called him the "best voice on Broadway" as did the Ziegfelds. It is time for this researcher to find out just who played in the original Blossom Time. He was the one to play in the National Theatre, why is that so? Shewolff 77

Andy - I only have one request: don't make the mistake that the RENT and PHANTOM movies did by taking rhyming lyrics and changing them into spoken dialogue. It sounds/feels terrible. I guess I'll be surprised if the movie is sung through, as the show is, but if the need is there to replace recitative with spoken dialogue, PLEASE SWITCH OUT THE LYRICS.

S.A. Fan - The 2011 touring company of this show is great. The actors are wonderful! I saw the first tour and now this one in Fort Wayne last night. I love it! Both casts are brilliant! The only thing I hope they can fix is the overpowering of the band. I knew the words to the songs, but couldn't hear them, because the music was too loud.

Pina Bausch in DANCING DREAMS on DVD, 11/16 2010/10/18
Posted: 2/24/2011
Guest - Last night I watched "Dancing Dreams" and was moved to tears many times by the beauty of the performances, the revelations of the teenagers, the dedication of their teachers and coaches, and the empathy Pina Bausch expressed for their journey. Like every good documentary, it made me want to know more, to follow them as they moved on from the experience. Many of the kids talked about how they were changed by the experience, that they had become less shy, more tolerant of differences in others, more aware of themselves. It is a brilliant, beautiful story -- sometimes funny, sometimes heartbreaking, always absorbing. I saw three live performances of Pina Bausch's Tanztheater Wuppertal, two in California, one in Paris, and they were all thrilling. I hope that somehow these young dancers will help to keep her art alive.

Alan Miller - Despite being presented as a "trilogy," this production really is three separate plays cobbled together. The first of the three, Rose, is entertaining and very cleverly crafted, boasting a creative and original plot device. But the other two plays, Paraffin and Nursing, rely excessively on sex, nudity, sophomoric scatalogical humor and violence to hold the audience's interest - and it didn't work for me in either of the two. I've posted a long comment on the whole "trilogy" and another on Rose on my blog and I'll be posting individual reviews of the other two plays that comprise it on my blog over the next few days. You can read my posts on these and dozens of other plays on my blog www.aseatontheaisle.blogspot.com.
