Oh would take on Shakespeare marked a new direction for one of last century's major opera composers, Benjamin Britten. In A Midsummer Night's Dream, he moves away from the introverted characters in his earlier operas. There are no troubled souls, but openly passionate lovers, clown-like poseurs and seductive, sinister fantasy creatures.

In A Midsummer Night's Dream Britten gives primacy to the glittering alveverdenen and grind it up with all his amazing sound palette. A Midsummer Night's Dream is simply unique opera, which alternates between the extravagant and the wistful, thumbing your nose at the clichés of the genre of opera, holds a stab at the composer's contemporaries and powers at the same time to be both profoundly moving and entertaining.

Among the soloists will find the young British counter-tenor Tim Mead, one of the leading opera singers, Eir Inderhaug and the world renowned bassbarytonen Gidon Saks, led by the no less famous conductor Paul McCreesh.
