Hedwig and the Angry Inch in Broadway HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH
Cafe Istanbul
9/6-9/23/2018
The story of Hedwig, a fourth-wall smashing genderqueer East German rock'n'roll goddess, is hitting New Orleans starting September 6th! Backed by her punk rock band "The Angry Inch,” Hedwig (Edward Simon) weaves a tragically beautiful international journey as she escapes East Berlin as Hansel and arrives in an all-American Kansas trailer park as Hedwig. Through soaring rock songs and side-splitting monologues, Hedwig greets us as she stalks cornfed superstar Tommy Gnosis's world tour. Divided between conqueror and victim, Hedwig demands redress from Tommy for stealing her songs, her fame, and her love. Aided by her assistant/backup singer/husband, Yitzhak (Kimberly Kaye), Hedwig shares her fascinating life story with songs like “Tear Me Down,” “The Origin of Love,” “Sugar Daddy” & “Wig in a Box.” This rockin’ ride exposes the polarity in us all, lifting up anyone who feels life gave them an inch when they deserved a mile. “Hedwig” lands in New Orleans starting September 6th at Cafe Istanbul for a strictly limited engagement playing through Sept 23rd. Lobby doors will open at 8PM, with a nightly performance time of 8:30PM Directed by Kimberly Kaye Music Direction by Ainsley Matich Stage Management by Jenny Billot Costumes by Dana Marie Embree Sound Design by Clare Nemanich Lighting Design by Scott Sauber

9/20-10/7/2018
In remembrance of the 20th anniversary of the murder of Matthew Shepard, The Storyville Collective and the Delgado Community College Theatre Department will be co-producing THE LARAMIE PROJECT. The play draws upon hundreds of interviews conducted by members of the Tetonic Theatre Company with the citizens of Laramie, as well as published news reports and company members’ journal entries, to depict the events surrounding the murder of Matthew Shepard, an openly gay college student at the University of Wyoming, by Aaron McKinney and Russell Henderson. The murder was denounced as a hate crime and drew attention to the lack of hate crime laws in Wyoming and nationally.
