Trump -- once again -- fails to condemn the alt-right, white supremacists

I absolutely despise Donald J. Trump but my travels throughout the old south this past weekend and his latest remarks on Charlottesville from Trump Tower allowed me to finally understand his appeal to his base.  He's phony as a $3 bill but his boys-will-be-boys attitude resonates with a cross section of Americans. His attitude, his cabinet, and his policies are all very PHALLIC.  On a return flight from a rural airport in NC late Sun evening, I overheard a couple of Trump Dudes assessing the situation in Charlottesville.  Both lamented the death of Heather Heyer  but one suggested that she should have never been there in the first place which was a way of saying that the little lady should have been out of harms way since there was no guy there to protect her.

Worse still, FoxNews' Greg Gutfeld suggests that Trump's not someone that you invite to a Tupperware party but he's one helluva a street fighter.  I couldn't disagree more.  Why? Has anyone ever seen Trump fight?  In the primaries, he took on men who were either afraid of their own shadows or who lacked the fame & fortune to escape the large shadow cast by him on the debate stages.  In the general election debates, he beat up a "girl".  Word on the street is that Trump is very averse to confrontation himself and has historically dispatched someone else to fire employees at all levels of the Trump Crime Family.  The man is a professional shaite-stirrer who would cower behind Melania if someone got up in his grill while not under the protection of the secret service or an army of bodyguards.

I suggest that the way to rattle Trump's cage is for every individual and institution who loathes him as much as I do to challenge his alpha male status at every turn.  In other words, call his bluff that he's the man that his predecessors were incapable of being, especially Obama.  He operates at a primal level mentally so that's the only way to make anything stick to him.  As boneheaded as the suggestion is, this fight IS for the boys.  So, I'm going to need for Mitch McConnell, Speaker Paul Ryan, Trump's Chief of Staff and his circle-jerk team of generals to man up and stop the Man-Child in Chief from governing based on his unresolved daddy issues and raging hard-on for men in uniform.  #FakePresident

Currently, the most popular tweet in history.  Please retweet or like if you see fit.  This is only one method to let the Trump Crime Family and the Trump Dudes led by ringleader Bannon know that we're willing and able to fight back on several fronts.

I will say that I'm sorry to distract people from the real issue here and of course Trump's response overall left much to be desired (why take so long and public pressure to criticise these extremist racists?). It doesn't matter who threw the first or second or third stone. The idea that there are people marching with nazi flags in the street is not something we should feel comfortable about in 2017, and it is not fair that a woman who stood up against this had to die.

I often post here on my phone, so please excuse issues with grammar, paragraphing and spelling :).

I very much sleep easy knowing I hold consistent progressive values - I was right about Bernie Sanders/Hillary. I am right about religion (look at the devastating impact of the absurd Christian Republican Party or the way gay Muslims are treated worldwide, or terrorism - was right to correctly assume the Manchester attack wa in fact an Islamic attack). I am a scientific atheist and confident in my intellectual capability. If you are not willing to even consider other ideas then I do truly consider it your loss. Most of what all of you say is actually of great value, morally correct and truthful - but there are times where I feel we do need to call out and discuss certain assumptions or beliefs you might hold. And I might not always be right either. Though I think my track record is pretty good so far.

There is nothing worse than a sanctimonious scientific atheist!

This includes Washington and Jefferson. People who claimed to own human beings have nothing to tell us about liberty or justice, and must be vilified for the monsters they were.

kdogg36 - If you want to have a discussion about honoring Washington and Jefferson, please do.  On the other hand, the monuments to Lee and other confederates were and are symbols of white supremacy.

That is obviously true. It's my understanding that may such monuments were erected in the 1960s as a reaction to the civil rights movement.

My hometown of Baltimore wasted no time removing Confederate statues overnight (though it's puzzling why they'd ever be there in the first place):

Jefferson, although a slave owner himself(over 100), detested slavery as an institution. as you may remember from 1776, he was forced to delete his anti-slavery passage in the Declaration by the other Southern delegates. Was he a hypocrite? Depends on your perspective.

Being progressive and not being racist doesn't inoculate you against being a smug, sanctimonious ****with a startling lack of empathy. You seem to care more about asserting your own rectitude than any actual belief you may hold. You aren't even open to the possibility that people react viscerally to your little essays on here because you don't seem to have any regard for their feelings. You write us off as unenlightened, emotional fools who can't get on your intellectual level. Your underdeveloped emotional intelligence makes you supremely inept at actually making a compelling case for your views.

You're a better man than I, Kad.  Not that that is new information.  I was just gonna say, 'Shut your f*cking mouth!' and leave it at that.

I would love to think that the fact that the President of the United States has outright defended neo-Nazis and white supremacists would be the straw that finally breaks the camel's back in terms of Republicans' support for this moron, but who knows?

Honestly, I'd be curious to hear from Trump supporters (and this is with no snark or malice) whether or not you still support him knowing that he champions the despicable cause of these vile and and wretched people.

I'd be first in line to buy it. I like your post, Kad.

That is a good NYTimes article - of course it is speaking at a group-level and generally. And it doesn't take into account the timeline of the murderer vs other violent attacks during the rally. Were the counter protest group subject to violent attacks, that they then defended themselves? Or did the counter protest group incite any violence themselves? As I mentioned it doesn't really excuse the devastating murder (this is the most annoying thing about Trump's comments - it almost suggests the violence was equal. It clearly wasn't). But I think it's good to know whether individuals in the counter protect group contributed to the escalation of violence or not. So far I haven't been able to get a clear understanding of what happened - the murder has overshadowed any of the other smaller details.

This may not fully answer your question, but here's a Slate piece where they got people who were there to speak about what happened:
