May 10 , 1888, Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky attended the Maly Theatre in Moscow to a representation of Renés Datter Kong (" The Daughter of King Rene ") , one-act play of the Danish playwright Henrik Hertz. Very moved by the young actress who plays Iolanta , he decided to adapt the play into an opera and load his brother Modeste to write the libretto . Founded in St. Petersburg in 1892, Iolanta is the last opera composed by Tchaikovsky. The booklet describes the fate of Iolanta , daughter of King René of Provence . It is blind, but his father wants him we hide this state, until one day ...
