The Belgian choreographer Alain Platel is a master in the art to combine different materials, orchestrating chaos; he insists a flush beauty beyond its stereotypical forms, plus surprise.
For decades, Belgium - and the Grand Duchy as elsewhere - the musical societies such as bands and choral societies are rooted in cultural and social community life. Currently, nothing in Flanders, a thousand of these companies are active.
With Forward march!, Alain Platel and Frank Van Laecke designed a show inspired by the folk traditions. They address the phenomenon of musical society as "miniature community," a group composed of diverse individuals who are trying to adopt a certain musical cadence and walk together in the same direction, which makes a successful metaphor for our society.
