Springing from The House of Dust, a seminal yet under-recognized late 1960s work by Fluxus artist Alison Knowles, FLAX (France Los Angeles Exchange), the MAK Center for Art and Architecture and Art by Translation (TALM Angers & cole nationale suprieure darts de Paris-Cergy), in collaboration with CalArts, present SHELTER OR PLAYGROUND: THE HOUSE OF DUST AT THE SCHINDLER HOUSE. Complementing the exhibition, a robust performance program begins on February 16 & 17 and continues throughout the run of the show, featuring new works and performances by: Rafa Esparza (USA); Henry Andersen & Bryana Fritz/Slow Reading Club (Australia, USA); Lila Athanasiadou (Netherlands); Jasmin Blasco (France/USA); Dimitri Chamblas (France); Franois Dallegret and Franois Perrin (France); Milka Djordjevich (USA); Daniel Frota (Brazil); Mark Geffriaud (France); Gerard & Kelly (USA); Jeff Guess (France); Simon Leung (USA) and Luke Stoneham (UK); Lucky Dragons (USA); and FLAX Artist-in-Residence Aurlie Godard (France). Shelter or Playground will be accompanied by interpretations of scores by Fluxus artists or those associated with FluxusAlison Knowles, Yoko Ono, Alvin Lucier, Pauline Oliverosinterpreted by CalArts students and historical performances, including works by Merce Cunningham and Trisha Brown on the Calarts Nomad Floor.
