Following sold out screenings at theprestigious New Directors/New Films Festival, at the Film Society of Lincoln Center and MoMA,IndiePix will release acclaimed Iranian photographer Shirin Neshat's directorial debut WOMEN WITHOUT MEN theatrically in Los Angeles on April 9, Washington, DC on April 30 followed by a mid-May release in New York. A national platform rollout continues with home video and digitalrelease slated for the fall.

Against the tumultuous backdrop of the 1953 CIA-backed coup d'état in Iran, the destinies offour women converge in a beautiful orchard, where they find independence, solace andcompanionship. Using the story-telling techniques of magical realism while staying rooted in aglobally important, historical turning point, the film juxtaposes layers of individual repression in the lives of four women and national struggles at the political and military level.

IndiePix President Bob Alexander remarked that: "Women Without Men is visually arresting. Every frame is a powerful image that draws us into the story with its beauty -- and every sceneengages us in the human drama of individual and social struggles. Shirin delivers anextraordinarily beautiful experience in film that stays with us all." The deal was negotiated byKrysanne Katsoolis and Bob Alexander representing IndiePix and Fionnuala Jamison and PhillipeBober of the Co-Production Office representing the film.

In addition to the film's theatrical release, Rizzoli International Publications will publish SHIRINNESHAT in hardcover. The book, written by Arthur Danto, an art critic and professor of philosophy, includes a forward by Marina Abramovi? the world renowned performance artist. The book explores the artist's haunting body of work: From Women of Allah , the landmark photographic series of militant Muslim women donning chadors and brandishing guns, to Women Without Men . Rizzoli has long beenknown for producing exceptional books dedicated to the work of important contemporary artists.

Winner of the Silver Lion for best director at the 2009 Venice Film Festival, WOMENWITHOUT MEN has grown out of Neshat's visual art. Over the past 15 years, Neshat has createdprovocative expressions drawn on her personal experiences in exile, and on the widening politicaland ideological rift between the West and the Middle East. Her numerous awards include the Lilian Gish Prize (2006), the Hiroshima Museum of Contemporary Art Peace Award (2004), theGrand Prix of the Kwangju Biennial in Korea (200), and the Golden Lion Award, the FirstInternational Prize at the 48th Venice Biennale (1999).
