BAD JEWS
Desert Ensemble Theatre Company
4/8-4/17/2016
The night after their grandfather's funeral, three cousins engage in a verbal (and sometimes physical) battle. In one corner is Daphna Feygenbam, a “Real Jew” who is volatile, self-assured and unbending. In the other is her equally stubborn cousin Liam, a secular and entitled young man, who has his “shiksa” girlfriend, Melody, in tow. Stuck in the middle is Liam's brother, Jonah, who tries to stay out of the fray. When Liam stakes claim to their grandfather's Chai necklace, a vicious and hilarious brawl over family, faith and legacy ensues. “A combative meditation on contemporary American Judaism, and funnier than anything you'll find at the J.C.C.” - The New Yorker Performances are Fridays/Saturdays, 7pm and Sundays, 2pm.

1ST DEGREE°
UT Theatre of the Falcon Stages
4/14-4/23/2016
Award-winning playwright Garry Michael Kluger’s latest play, 1ST DEGREE° will have its world premiere at the UT Theatre of the Falcon Stages in April, 2016. Kluger is also directing this limited engagement of his latest comedy. Kluger’s other works include In A Yellow Wood, A Thorn In The Family Paw, and the award-winning plays Brotherhood, The Homecoming, Office Hours, and The Other Half. 1st Degree° follows the waitresses of Mandells Restaurant: Lisa, Jackie, Audrey, Rebecca, Cammy, and Tink when they find out that their favorite band, 1ST Degree°, will be holding a one-night only show at a local Rock & Roll club. With no money to buy tickets, the task becomes how to get in and see their favorite group perform. When the answer comes, it’s via their friends, Jesse and Peter, who will be working at the club on performance night. And, as is usually the case in situations like this, all the best-laid plans of mice and men – and Rock and Roll fanatic waitresses - usually doesn’t go as all had hoped.   The young and talented cast of 1ST Degree° includes: Samantha Abelson, Parnaz Boroon, Allie Fernandez, Thomas Proctor, Lara Rostomian, Aidan Travis, Hannah Weingarten, Taylor Wolfe.

`ALL IS FAIR` (OR `OBLIVION WROUGHT`)
Dorie Theatre at The Complex
4/8-4/24/2016
Idly Bent presents the World Premiere of award winning Director-Playwright Reed Arnold`s new play, `All Is Fair` (or `Oblivion Wrought`), at the Dorie Theatre in Hollywood, CA, opening on Friday, April 8th for eleven performances through Sunday, April 24, 2016. This funny and thought-provoking play grapples with the thornier side of the emotions and ethics of love. `All is Fair` stars Arnold, Sarah Elizabeth Johnston, Michael Minto, and Ross Gallo. In the thought-provoking and funny `All Is Fair,` written and directed by Reed Arnold, Heather (Johnston) and Dan (Arnold) are two promising accounting consultants in Chicago. The coworkers spend long hours and late nights working together on their firm`s most challenging cases while trying to ignore the sparks flying between them, but when Heather gets engaged to her longtime boyfriend, they finally acknowledge their mutual attraction. Instead of dismissing it outright, they take an emotionally risky, professionally reckless, and morally fraught journey into the what-might-have-been. Stomaching the teasing of Dan`s roommate Chris (Minto), who is dealing with trust issues in his own relationship, and avoiding the suspicions of Vince (Gallo), their boss `in title only,` the two must make decisions about love, trust, pride, and passion as Heather`s wedding day looms ever closer. This poignant and provocative new play looks at the thornier side of the emotions and ethics of love and asks what beautiful and brutal things people do in its name. If it is indeed true that all is fair, then, in the end, nothing is. The play is written and directed by Arnold; set design is by Brian Cole; lighting design is by Rebecca Raines; and Zachary Zarvos is the stage manager. For additional information, please visit the play`s website at http://allisfairplay.com/. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday performances start at 8:00pm. Sunday performances start at 7:00pm. General admission tickets are $20 at the door (cash only), $14 online in advance, and `pay what you will` on Thursdays. Suggested minimum audience age is 16. The production will be staged at The Dorie Theatre at The Complex in the heart of Hollywood`s Theatre Row (6476 Santa Monica Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90038; 323-465-0383). Purchase online tickets here: http://allisfairplay.com/tickets.

An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home life, the tweens spell their way through a series of [potentially made-up] words hoping to never hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming “ding” of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves! At least the losers get a juice box. This heartwarming musical comedy features a cast of 9 amazingly talented performers who sing and dance their way into your hearts!

A GENTLEMAN'S GUIDE TO LOVE & MURDER
Ahmanson Theatre
3/22-5/1/2016
Getting away with murder can be so much fun... and there's no better proof than the knock-'em-dead hit show that's earned unanimous raves and won the 2014 Tony Award for BEST MUSICAL—A GENTLEMAN'S GUIDE TO LOVE & MURDER! As one most gentlemanly NPR critic put it, "I'VE NEVER LAUGHED SO HARD AT A BROADWAY MUSICAL!" GENTLEMAN'S GUIDE tells the uproarious story of Monty Navarro, an heir to a family fortune who sets out to jump the line of succession by—you guessed it—eliminating the eight pesky relatives who stand in his way. All the while, Monty has to juggle his mistress (she's after more than just love), his fiancee (she's his cousin but who's keeping track?), and the constant threat of landing behind bars! Of course, it will all be worth it if he can slay his way to his inheritance... and be done in time for tea. The Hollywood Reporter raves, "GENTLEMAN'S GUIDE RESTORES OUR FAITH IN MUSICAL COMEDY" and The New York Times cheers, "IT WILL LIFT THE HEARTS OF ALL THOSE WHO’VE BEEN PINING FOR WHAT SOMETIMES SEEMS A LOST ART FORM." Kindly get your tickets now for the new musical that will have you dying with laughter!

A quirky British comedy. In this rollicking romp, half-sisters Bella and Angie share a flat a couple of hours outside of London. Older sister Bella is a hopeless, yet hopeful romantic, while Angie, with biological clock ticking madly away, attracts numerous male bed buddies with little prospect of any suitable knight in shining armour riding to her maternal rescue. On this particularly hot, steamy summer day, Bella and Angie's lives are about to take a surprising, wacky turn when unexpected guests come knocking.
