Violinist Tim Fain Headed to Carnegie Hall, Ravinia

In the span of a week this December, violinist Tim Fain hits the stages of Carnegie Hall, with the American Composers Orchestra, Ravinia, and more. Fain embodies the trail blazing eclecticism of the 21st century musician. His career has landed him on the great stages of the world, on screen in major motion pictures, and collaborations with popular music icons.

Sunday December 2nd: On the Silver Screen at Ravinia

On December 2nd Fain teams up with the Academy Award Nominated composer, pianist and and close friend Nicholas Britell for "Once Upon a Score" at Ravinia. The multimedia program recounts their years of collaboration on major motion pictures such as Moonlight and 12 Years a Slave, and includes film segments from Moonlight. The program is a celebration of Fain and Britell's work together creating cinematic moments through the interaction of music and picture. In addition to their work , the evening includes works from many of the film and multimedia projects of which they have been a part, including Fain's Portals and Resonance, Philip Glass's The Hours, and several other works by Britell. Friday December 8th: At Carnegie Hall

Tim Fain takes the stage at Carnegie Hall on December 8, 2017, where he'll appear as soloist in Philip Glass' Second Violin Concerto "The American Four Seasons" in Zankel Hall with the American Composer's Orchestra under the baton of George Manahan in celebration of the composer's 80th birthday.

As Fain remembers it, his connection to Glass began when, as a young boy, he snuck into the TV room late one night to watch the documentary on the making of Einstein on the Beach with his parents. To his young ears the music was startling and seductive. In his early 20's he decided on a whim to accept an engagement playing Glass's first Violin Concerto, and was hooked. Soon thereafter followed work with Glass on a concert version of Einstein at Carnegie Hall, touring with Glass and his Book of Longing, a duo project which toured the globe, and a 30 minute solo violin Partita tailor made for Fain, which was the centerpiece of his evening-length solo multi-media program Portals. One could compare their years of collaboration and friendship to the old masters, mirroring the relationship of Brahms and Joachim.

Avery Fisher Career Grant-winning violinist Tim Fain was featured on the soundtracks to the films Moonlight, 12 Years a Slave,and Black Swan, where he also was seen on screen. Recipient of the Young Concert Artists International Award, he has appeared internationally as soloist with the Baltimore Symphony and Cabrillo Festival (Marin Alsop), the Orchestra of St. Luke's, Pittsburgh, Hague and Buffalo Philharmonics, Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestras, and National Orchestra of Spain. His recitals have taken him to the world's major music capitals, he has toured with Musicians from Marlboro, as a member of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, and around the globe in a duo-recital program with Philip Glass. He collaborated with Google on a Virtual Reality music video for his composition, Resonance, which introduced its 360 stereoscopic VR capability for YouTube, and was recently shown at The Sundance Film Festival.His multi-media solo evening Portals premiered to sold-out audiences on both coasts and continues to travel worldwide. Featuring a new work written for him by Philip Glass, Portals includes collaborations with Benjamin Millepied, Leonard Cohen, pianist Nicholas Britell and radio personality Fred Child. He has collaborated with an eclectic array of artists from Pinchas Zukerman and Mitsuko Uchida, to the Mark Morris Dance Group and New York City Ballet to Iggy Pop, Rob Thomas (Matchbox 20), and he has performed for the Dali Lama. His discography includes River of Light, (Naxos); Philip Glass: The Concerto Project IV with the Hague Philharmonic; and Tim Fain plays Philip Glass (Orange Mountain Music), and First Loves (VIA).
