The Wick Theatre will have audiences jumping for joy with their second show of the season, Sister Act. The musical comedy, based on the hilarious 1992 movie starring Whoopi Goldberg, is filled with toe-tapping songs and outrageous show-stopping dance numbers. Featuring original music by eight-time Oscar winner Alan Menken (Beauty And The Beast, The Little Mermaid, Newsies), this uplifting show is a sparkling tribute to the universal power of friendship.

The Broadway version of Sister Act varies a little from the movie, but follows the same premise. When wannabe disco diva Deloris Van Cartier witnesses a crime, the cops hide her in the last place anyone would think to look--a convent! Under the suspicious watch of Mother Superior, Deloris turns the convent's lackluster choir into a musical powerhouse. And as she helps them discover their voices, she finds her own.

"This show is a rousing good time," said Executive Managing Producer, Marilynn A. Wick. "The production numbers are filled will 70's disco, funk, Gospel and blues. Audiences will love the soulful energy, dazzling costumes and flashy choreography. And I am especially proud that this production will showcase so much local talent. We have an amazing cast of well-known local stars, some are Wick favorites and some are making their debut."

The show is being directed by Michael Ursua with choreography by a returning Wick favorite, Shanna Sell.

"This is a huge cast," said Michael Ursua, The Wick's resident musical director, who has also taken the directorial helm of several of The Wick's previous shows. "I am thrilled to be working with such outstanding group of multi-talented performers, each of whom brings incredible star power to the stage."

The lead of Deloris is played by Patrece Bloomfield, a formally trained singer, who has shared her talents throughout Central Florida for the past few years. Some highlights include participating in the Orlando Opera , performing in The Lion King's "Harambe Nights" at Disney's Animal Kingdom, "Joyful, A Gospel Celebration" at Disney, "Lorelle" in Dream Girls at Theatre Winter Garden, "Glenda the Good Witch" in Step Ones Dance Studios production of "The Wiz."

Mother Superior is played by Danette Cuming, who is making her Wick debut. Most recently, Danette appeared as Marion Woolnough in "The Boy from Oz" at Theatrezone. Other roles include Betty Blake in the National Tour of "The Will Rogers Follies," starring Mac Davis, followed by Larry Gatlin; Lucinda in the National Tour of "Into the Woods," starring Cleo Laine and Charlotte Rae (Danette's peach ball gown is currently at the Wick Costume Museum). She appeared with Anthony Newley in his revival of "Stop the World, I want to Get Off," and had the pleasure to work with Mary Rodgers in "Freaky Friday" playing Ellen/Annabel.
