Due to overwhelming audience response and demand, the Island City Stage production of Michael McKeever's "Daniel's Husband" has added performances on Wednesday, June 24 at 8pm, Friday, July 3 at 8pm, Saturday, July 4 at 8pm and Sunday July 5 at 5pm.

Island City Stage closes out it's third season with a flourish, presenting the world premiere of "Daniel's Husband" by multi-award-winning South Florida playwright Michael McKeever.

The play, workshopped at 'Jan McArt's New Play Reading Series' at Boca Raton's Lynn University last winter, delves into the lives of a gay couple; Mitchell, who does not believe in gay marriage and Daniel who desperately wants to be married. After a life-altering event, both men learn that, even in an enlightened society, when fundamental rights are denied the results can be devastating. With humor, pathos and great insight, Daniel's Husband explores the consequences of accepting the limitations defined by society.

Island City Stage has become one of the region's few theatres to consistently risk mounting full productions of new plays. This past year they received Carbonell Award nominations for two productions (in a field of four) for the Best New Work Category with "POZ "by Michael Aman, and "Have I Got a Girl for You" by Josh Mesnik.

"Daniel's Husband," directed by Island City Stage Artistic Director Andy Rogow, will feature some of the region's best known actors including Antonio Amadeo, Laura Turnbull, Alex Alvarez, Larry Buzzeo and Kristian Bikic.

Island City Stage's award-winning design team of Michael McClain (sets), Preston Bircher (lighting), Peter A. Lovello(costumes), and David Hart (sound), all return for this production.

Performances run Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 PM and Sundays at 5:00 PM through July 5. All performances are at Empire Stage, 1140 N. Flagler Drive in Fort Lauderdale. For box office and ticket information visit islandcitystage.org or call 954-519-2533.
