APPOINTMENTS

**Please email casting@WSRep.org to request an audition slot. EPA rules apply. Walk-ins will be accepted on a first come first served basis. Non-Equity performers welcome. (AEA then EMC will be priority). We will accept EMC and non-AEA walk-ins for auditions. NOTE - No Youth Actors under 16 will be seen on February 22 ,23, or 24 regardless of appointment. To submit for a youth audition please email youthcasting@wsrep.org for more information.

Please prepare 32 bars of your song of choice (an accompanist will be provided for you) and 1 comedic monologue (1 minute max in length).

Please bring your Song Book in the event you're asked to sing something else.

BREAKDOWN

CASTING BREAKDOWN FOR AN ACT OF GOD

GABRIEL: (40's-60's) The archangel who is in charge of looking over the Bible. He is refined, and extremely smart. He's been around, and is proud to be one of God's wingmen. Is able to sing.

MICHAEL: (20's-30's) The hip archangel who is a bit of a rebel. Isn't afraid to question God in his practices, though it does get him into trouble at times. Is able to sing.

CASTING BREAKDOWN FOR ALWAYS, PATSY CLINE

PATSY CLINE : (25 - 35) The famous, acclaimed country vocalist best known for her rich tone, emotionally expressive and bold contralto voice. A country music pioneer. Actress must have ability to mimic her unique vocal sound. Impersonation of the legendary singer, vocally and physically. She was only 30 years old when she died.

LOUISE SEGER : (40 – 55) Devoted fan of Patsy Cline who establishes a friendship with her through letter correspondence and finally meets her; a typical strong-willed, funny Texan woman; Comedic and emotionally charged; engaging storyteller with a big heart who provides backstory and narration of the play. Must be incredibly comfortable in front of an audience and possess sharp ad-lib ability. Musical but not necessarily a great singer. Must command the stage. A strong comedic sense needed for this role.

CASTING BREAKDOWN FOR MATILDA: THE MUSICAL

MATILDA WORMWOOD : (8-14) A fiercely clever child, living in an abusive household she escapes into books and her imagination. She has a thirst for learning that cannot be quenched. Likable and Charismatic not annoying or pretentious. Honest and unassuming but with a prankster streak and strong sense of justice. Extremely bright, fearless and focused, and able to speak assertively. She has a strong moral compass with a smart, analytical mind. Vocal range top: D5 Vocal range bottom: A3 Ethnicity: All Ethnicities

PLEASE NOTE: Must be a strong singer and confident speaker; must sing and move. Must be small in stature, should be able to pass for 6-9 years old. MISS AGATHA TRUNCHBULL : (35 - 55) Headmistress of Crunchem Hall Primary School. Miss Honey's Aunt. Once a famous athlete, she is described as a gigantic Holy terror, a fierce tyrannical monster who marches like a storm trooper with long arms swinging with an aura of menace”. Tall, or otherwise physically imposing. High energy and extreme physical fitness crucial for this role. This person creating this role will be dressed up in clothing, makeup possible bodysuit, wig, etc. to assume the role of Miss Trunchbull. Vocal Range Top: G4 Vocal Range Bottom: A2 Ethnicity: All Genders and Ethnicities encouraged to audition for the role.

MISS JENNIFER HONEY : (25-40) A mild, quiet person who never raises her voice and seldom seems to smile - yet possesses the rare gift of being adored by every small child under her care. She should have a curious warmth that is almost tangible. Sweet, honest, caring, and intelligent, Miss Honey is timid but willing to become brave and stand up to bullies in order to protect her students. Vocal Range Top: D5 Vocal Range Bottom: F3 Lyrical pure sounding voice. Ethnicity: All Ethnicities

MR. WORMWOOD : (35-45) A mean crooked dealer in second-hand cars - a mean crooked crook - with a penchant for wearing jackets with large, brightly colored checks. Sometimes dense, but always scheming - a real snake oil salesman. Comfortable in his body with an ease of movement, skills in clowning or pantomime a plus strong singer. Vocal range top: A4 Vocal range bottom: D3 Ethnicity: All Ethnicities

MRS. WORMWOOD : THIS ROLE HAS BEEN CAST - Looking for understudy

MICHAEL WORMWOOD : (18-25) Matilda’s older brother; a man of few words and even less thoughts; will double some roles in the ensemble. should be older, playing a snarky teenager. Needs good deadpan comedy and the ability to find a character during a lot of stage time with few words. This track is an ensemble/minor role track during the show and may have other principal, or non-principal, covers roles assigned to him. No featured singing, but should have strong vocal skills. Ethnicity: All Ethnicities

MRS. PHELPS : (30 – 60) Warm and nurturing local librarian who encourages Matilda’s love of reading. She has an inner peace and loves a good story; must sing as ensemble. Ethnicity: All Ethnicities

RODOLPHO : (25 - 35) Mrs. Wormwood’s dance partner; should be genuinely fit and athletic; flare for character comedy, strong stamina for the dance; must sing High baritone with consistent Fs with passing top A. Very strong dancer with great stamina both in dance and vocals. Latin ballroom a plus; might double as ensemble. May be asked to do a number of extreme splits and stretches as part of audition while singing. VOCAL RANGE: High baritone with consistent Fs with passing top A. Vocal Range Top: A4 Vocal Range Bottom: D#3 Ethnicity: All Ethnicities

THE ESCAPOLOGIST : (30-40) Charismatic, confident, warm and caring; might double as Doctor or Ensemble; must sing and move well. May require some lift style dance moves with the Acrobat. Vocal Range Top: C3 Vocal Range Bottom: D4 Ethnicity: All Ethnicities

THE ACROBAT : (20-40) Graceful, elegant; doubles as Ensemble; must sing and move well. May require some lift style dance moves with the Escapologist Vocal Range Top: D5 Vocal Range Bottom: A4 Ethnicity: All Ethnicities

SERGEI : (30 - 50) Russian Mafia Boss who is physically intimidating; Russian accent; must sing as ensemble; movement a plus. Vocal Range Top: F4 Vocal Range Bottom: F3 Ethnicity: All Ethnicities

DOCTOR : (30 – 40) Confident, caring; might double as Escapologist or Ensemble; must sing (Hi tenor to top A, plus ensemble vocals) Vocal Range Top: C3 Vocal Range Bottom: D4

MALE/FEMALE ENSEMBLE: (20s-30s) To play ages 20s-30s; to play various featured roles, as well as other roles including possible Older Kids, Salsa Dancers, Henchmen, Mechanic, Party Entertainer, Cook, Nurse etc. The ensemble cast must be able to sing; some (not all) ensemble roles require strong, athletic movers with a great sense of rhythm. Some male roles will require some ability to lift another cast member. Strong character actors are encouraged to audition. Ethnicity: All Ethnicities
