BREAKDOWN
SYNOPSIS: After being bussed into a newly integrated school, three friends find themselves in center of a mysterious encounter which ignites a panic throughout the area. Using elements of magical realism and visceral theatricality, three girls never learnt the way home explores the question of what happens to children caught in the middle of complicated adult fears.
NOTE FROM PLAYWRIGHT: Our 3 girls are meant to be playing high schoolers who come from the poor side of town; not necessarily "urban" as that places them too specifically in a play that is much more magical and not realism.
SEEKING:
PACIFICA - Female, early high school. Minority. Brash, charismatic talker who fronts a lot about what she's done. But in some magical scenes, she is highly poetic and more ethereal.18+ to play younger.
EDITH - Female, early high school. Minority. Seemingly naive, and good-hearted, but has the ability to become unhinged. 18+ to play younger.
IVORY - Female, early high school. Minority. A sense of wisdom, wise beyond her years; a maturity to her. 18+ to play younger.
A MOTHER - Female, old enough to have a son in high school, any ethnicity. An overly-protective parent from the affluent side of town who is able to mask what she is up to, but also isn’t at all afraid to be thought of badly for sake of her son or ashamed to believe what she believes.
