If you are using an iPhone to video record, please be sure to film horizontally and in a well-lit space (not backlit). At the top of the video, please slate your name and height.
Please prepare two contrasting contemporary monologues. If auditioning for THE LAST FIVE YEARS, please record the appropriate music side provided at https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/12sfpEssmtqt9tzYPSb2OWThuNcnRXw8_?usp=sharing along with a one-minute monologue.
ROLES:
Most characters we encounter currently are on the binary and are written with he/him or she/her pronouns and you will see that in the following character descriptions. However, as limiting the descriptions are, our casting seeks to be inclusive as possible and we encourage gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender, and non-binary actors to submit for the roles they most identify with. We will also list race/ethnicity when specific to the character but are otherwise encourage all races and ethnicities to submit.

WOMAN (Irene): CAST - (age 50’s) Wife of Peter. Therapist, empty nester. Mother of a recent college graduate. Quick-witted; attractive. Wants to be and have fun!
MAN (Peter): CAST - (age 50’s) Husband of Irene. Businessman, empty nester, confident, charming when he wants to be. Father of a recent college graduate. On vacation but finds it a challenge to relax; hungry for dinner and a little something else.
WAITER (Stephen): CAST - (age 40’s) Gay. A long-time Palm Springs waiter. Lies about his age. Has seen his share of parties. High strung, needy. Great comedic timing.
BOOK CLUB PLAY by Karen Zacarías

ANA: CAST; (age 30’s) Charming. Smart. Accomplished. Organized. A columnist for a Daily paper. The Mother Bee. Her grace masks a need to control.
ROBERT NOVUM SMITH JR: CAST; (age 30’s) - ANA’s golden-boy handsome, charismatic, underachiever husband who is starting to search for meaning. Met in college. Upper-crust background.
WILLIAM LEE NOTHNAGEL: (age 30’s) ROB’s conservative, closeted, well-read, well-dressed, disciplined college roommate. ANA’s former boyfriend. History buff. Unmarried.
JENNIFER MCCLINTOCK: CAST (age 30’s) ANA’s friend. Pretty. Shy. Smart. Tends to burst out with awkward truthful comments. Despite some lack of self-confidence, she is the grounding center of the group. Unorganized and oblivious to her own attractiveness. Unmarried.
LILY LOUISE JACKSON: (black, African descent, age 20s) A go-getter. Former debate captain who is on the cusp of all current trends and yet can still put her foot in her mouth in social occasions. Laughs at appropriate and inappropriate times. A great lover of books and ANA’s protégé at the paper.
ALEX: CAST (age 30’s) The new guy. A very smart, well-read academic who has lost his moorings and is searching for real connection. Professor of comparative literature.

CATHERINE HIATT: CAST (late 20s, 30s); Character arcs from an ambitious, fresh-faced girl in a new relationship to a woman stunned by a betrayal and a divorce that she is only beginning to understand.
JAMIE WELLERSTEIN: CAST (late 20s, 30s); Character arcs from an ambitious guy on a promising first date with a dazzling career to someone who is blinded by success and ego. He is very lovable, yet makes unintentional choices that sabotages his own happiness.
BIRDS OF NORTH AMERICA by Anna Ouyang Moench

JOHN: CAST (age 57-70); a scientist and avid birder. An idealist and man of convictions who needs to be right. Not the breadwinner, he works to prove his worth. Okay with other people’s opinions, so long as they align with his. Demands attention, but has little patience to give it - except when birding. Loves deeply, but has a hard time showing it. Character ages from late 50s to late 60s.
CAITLYN: CAST (age 20’s-40’s); Mixed race, non-African descent. A copy editor for a conservative news outlet. Fears letting people down, and desperately wants her father’s approval - though she plays it off as indifference. Is guided by her financial and romantic circumstances. The person you’ll talk to when there is no one more interesting in the room. Character ages from late 20s/early 30s, to late 30s/early 40s.

JAKE LAURENTS: CAST (age: 20’s-50’s); voices multiple characters including Marley and the Ghost of Christmas Present.
HARRY JAZZBO HAYWOOD: CAST (age: 30’s-50’s); voices multiple characters including Bob Cratchit, Young Scrooge, and Tiny Tim.
SALLY APPLEWHITE: CAST (age: 30’s-40’s); voices multiple characters including Scrooge's sister Fan, and lost love Belle.
LANA SHERWOOD: CAST (age 30’s -50’s); voices multiple characters including The Ghost of Christmas Past and Cratchit's daughter Martha.
