SHOWTUNES concert productions involve a short and intense rehearsal and performance timeframe, and strong singers/actors are required. Actors must be available for all rehearsals and performances. SHOWTUNES is based in Seattle, WA. Local hires preferred.
Prepare one verse and chorus of a musical theater song that shows off your range and acting ability. Be prepared with additional choices since you may be asked to sing another song. Sheet music must be in the correct key.

The show features music by James Valcq, lyrics by Fred Alley, and a book by both artists. It will be directed by Jessica Spencer, an accomplished director, casting director, educator, actress, and producer of theatre from Seattle, and it will be music directed by Seattle veteran RJ Tancioco.
Rehearsals are April: 15th – 19th, 22nd – 26th, 29th – 30th, May 1st – 3rd 6-10pm; April 20th, 21st, 27th , 12-4pm; May 4th 12-6pm Tech Rehearsal
Performances: Saturday, May 4th at 8pm, Sunday, May 5th at 2pm, Saturday, May 11th at 8pm, Sunday, May 12th at 2pm

Based on the award-winning film by Lee David Zlotoff, the musical depicts the journey of a young woman just released from prison who decides to start her life anew in a rural Wisconsin town. She finds a place for herself working at Hannah’s Spitfire Grill. It’s for sale, but there are no takers for the only eatery in the depressed town. Newcomer Percy suggests to Hannah that she raffle it off, and the best essay on “why you want the grill” will win. Soon, mail is arriving by the wheelbarrow, and Percy’s ability to see beauty and worth in both the town and the people who live there leads the community on a journey of renewal and redemption.
PERCY TALBOTT – early/mid 20s. A young woman recently released from prison and serving her parole in Gilead, a place where nobody knows her past. A bit rough-edged, she exhibits the strength of her youth and a sadness beyond her years. Her accent has a southern Appalachian cadence. Strong folk/country belt to 'D', some head voice required.
HANNAH FERGUSON - about 70. A tough-skinned and flinty matriarch with a short, no-nonsense manner, a secret from her past keeps her from trusting others. Mezzo/alto chest range.
SHELBY THORPE - mid-30s. A plain, soft-spoken woman with a shy, quiet manner who has the ability to notice the details others may have missed. Shimmering folk soprano with strong high belt to 'D'.
CALEB THORPE - early 40s. Out-of-work foreman of the stone quarry. Frustrated working man clinging to the past while doing the past to provide for his family. Solid folk/rock voice with an edge (Top 'G').
SHERIFF JOE SUTTER - mid-late 20s/early 30s. A young small-town policeman, has the best of intentions, dreams of a life outside the town he was born in but still struggles to leave. Strong folk tenor to a 'G' (touches an 'A').
EFFY KRAYNECK – 30’s-50s. Postmistress and busybody, a woman focused on the news and business of Gilead, always has the best intention of the town in mind. Mezzo/alto chest range.
THE VISITOR - mid-40s. A mysterious figure who never speaks. An actor with powerful eyes and a very strong sense of his body.
