BREAKDOWN
All actors play multiple roles: their Dickensian character(s) from the show, as well as their amiable and charming Victorian Music Hall personalities. All actors must be versatile, have excellent comedic timing, and move well.

MR. WILLIAM CARTWRIGHT, CHAIRMAN is a seasoned showman of the Music Hall Royale who sets the scenes and keeps the show apace. He is the charming and witty master of ceremonies who guides the audience through the evening with lively banter and comedic flair. Also plays MAYOR THOMAS SAPSEA, the first citizen of Cloisterham. (Baritone, 40’s to 60’s).
MISS ALICE NUTTING is London’s leading male impersonator the troupe’s most haughty and petulant actor. Also plays EDWIN DROOD, the earnest and likable nephew of John Jasper. (Female, Soprano, early 20’s)

MR. CLIVE PAGET is the charmingly egotistical principal male lead for the Theatre Royale. Also plays MR. JOHN JASPER, the devilishly attractive and villainous choirmaster of the Cathedral with a twisted danger behind his cultivated facade. (Tenor, mid 30’s to late 40’s)
MISS DEIRDRE PEREGRINE is the troupe’s beautiful leading ingénue. Also plays MISS ROSA BUD, the most delicate of English roses. (Soprano, 20’s)

MISS JANET CONOVER is described as “unpredictable,” and a “fiery and spirited” actress. Also plays HELENA LANDLESS the orphaned twin sister of Neville Landless who also has an un-placeable accent. (Soprano with mid-range belt, 20’s to early 30’s)

MR. CEDRIC MONCRIEFFE is a seasoned character actor in the troupe. Also plays REVEREND CRISPARKLE, the kindly caretaker of the Landless twins. (Male, Tenor/Baritone, 40’s to 60’s)

PHILLIP BAX is a character man and bit player in the troupe waiting for his big break. Also plays BAZZARD, an unassuming “Jack of all trades” for the evening’s festivities at the Music Hall Royale. (Baritone or tenor, 30’s to late 40’s). Must also dance.
